Whenever I search for something the search engine always comes up with about a million different sites that are of no use whatsoever to me.

If anyone knows of a decent search engine could they please let me know of it, I've been searching for this thing for over an hour now and it's no longer free access time over here.

Hey, Cyra - try out http://www.northernlight.com (that could be the wrong address). They're alright for some things. The first couple of pages on most search engine searches are often full of Spammers (about 10 different entries for the same site) - try going straight to page 6, 7 or 8 on your engine and see if you get any closer.

I use Metacrawler (www.metacrawler.com), it actually uses about a dozen other search engines concurrently and compiles the results. If you are looking for something that is giving you way too many results, you can click on Power Search and set search timeouts, where to look, etc. I've never not found what I was looking for unless it didn't actualy exist.

Happy hunting! :)

Thank you sooooo much, I found what I was looking for after only about ten minutes this time. I will definately remember these two search engines. :)

I've never tried either of those but one i have came across that i simply CAN NOT live without is GOOGLE. Not only is it clever but it is sooooo freakin fast. They have the option of adding the google icons to the grey location bar at the top of your browser too if ya want. You can add all 3 or any of the three (GoogleScout, Google Search, and Google.com) check it out here http://www.google.com

hope it helps ya out, it's been a lifesavor to me :)

Thanks a lot Savage Kitten that has to be the fastest I've ever found anything on the net. The site I found just happened to be a Bulletin Board in the format that Literotica used to use. So much easier to navigate.

Hey Cyra3, Lasher has a great link on his hairy ass post!
I had the same problem when attempting to find a freaking
city code recently..... My God the places I went to until
I was sinking in the sucking muck of useless and stupid

Actually Cyra, I have perhaps the greatest tip in the world regarding search engines. If you didn't already know, placing your query in Quotation marks, (ie. "Model T Ford") will narrow down the search by hundreds of thousands of results to just sites that deal specifically with Model T Fords - Not Models, Not the Letter T, just the car! You're almost guarenteed to find only what you're after.

Another thing you may want to do is cross reference. I THINK that you can do it by using the + sign in between Queries. For example, type '"Food" + "Sex"' to come up with a list of sites that have to do with both sex and food. (It works, but I may have it slightly wrong. Play around and you'll get it.)

As for search engines, I use and swear by Altavista (www.altavista.com.) It has stacks of great features, is way easier to use than Yahoo and others like it, and always returns good results.

Hope that helps!

I'm gonna back MADDOG on this one. I too swear by Altavista.com
I can almost always find what I'm looking for there.

The ONLY search engine I use-- and I adore it-- is Ask Jeeves. http://www.askjeeves.com/ it sifts through to give you 'sponsored' links that directly correspond with popular searches, and then gives you a brief overview of what you can find in different search engines that might help.
