The system only updates views every 8-12 hours or so. i forget which exactly.

Tom the best I can say is it is an average.

presuming it is int the 3+ or 4+ range, a 5 is closer so it moves it smaller amounts than a 1 or 2 which is further away mathematically so it moves it more.

See...that's just messed up, man. If I understood that then what you're saying is that if you have a lot of 4s and 5s then one asshole bombing you with a 1 will totally destroy your score. That's as wrong as a blond Asian or a Scandinavian with a tan.
