For everyone that asking how to resize their pics go to
http://www.virtualzone.de/
There's a free program there that is very simple to use. You'll need Winzip though to unzip it. Hope this helps.

If you explan how to unzip it and install step by step then maybe it will help... some people are just not computer friendly... besides some of us enjoy resizing pictures :)

http://www.irfanview.com/ is the source for a freeware program that isn't restricted to JPeG format for viewing, resizing, browsing or batch coversions. It's also much easier to install, since it comes as an exe installer file.

Edited to fix the link even though a correct link has been posted.

Thanks for the advice but your link doesn't work dude. And Zmey since you like being so helpful why don't you explain to the nice people here how to download and unzip and install a zip file or is that to much to ask.

yes Infraview is a top rated image viewer-light editor however I still prefer ACDsee over it. Infraview does draw thumbs faster.
yes hotstik69 I very much like to help people that is why I'll give out this site and risk getting my self and this board in trouble. There are few windows machines that don't already have Microsoft Photo Editor installed and it is more then sufficient to resize images. It's just a matter of interest if people not interested in graphic editing there are few things that can make them... I think I will use mail server from that site ... I'm getting sick of IIS ... thanx for the link.
For people who still looking for a small resizing program here's JPEG Resizer 2.02 good thing about this program is that it can resize multiple files at ones

Irfanview's chief attraction is it's cost -- nothing -- for a fast and reliable image resizing program.

Like you, I prefer a more expensive and more capable program -- Paint Shop Pro from www.jasc.com which is what irfanview wants to be when it grows up. ;) There is a trial version of both Paint Shop Pro and Animation Shop (for animated GIFs which irfanview can't resize) but it is time-crippled and only good for 30 days before you have to spend the $125 US for a registered copy.

MS Photo Editor is good enough to resize most JPeG or GIF images and convert BMPs and a few other formats to JPG, but it has some troubles with some images that causes it distort them and no alternate resizing mode to compensate.

what is the average size of a jpg that is posted here? What are the dimensions?

I don't think there is any way to come up with an "average size" without tabulating every picture posted here to compute it.

In general, people choose the size that shows the details well, but doesn't take all day to upload or download. Since many pictures here come from Webcams they're "web-cam" sized -- usually 320 x 240 pixels and 20KB or less.

The maximum size limits are:

Avatars can be up to 150x150 pixels and 20KB -- most push the limit as much as possible.

Attachments can be 800 pixels wide and/or 600 pixels tall, and 100 KB or smaller. Most are much smaller -- 640x480 pixels and 25 KB or smaller.

Linked images can be any size, but most net images are in the 640x480 to 800x600 range.
