The above statement is not something which is made up. Those words are almost the exact ones a right-wing lobbyist said on national tv. The exact quote:
One has to wonder if Matt Schlapp suffered a recent blow to the head or if he's always had this delusion. If the press isn't supposed to point when someone is lying, then why bothering reporting anything?
Further, according to Schlapp, pointing out when the con artist, his spokesperson, or anyone really, is lying, makes you a liberal elitist. This is also the reason, according to Schlapp, America hates the media. Pointing out lies is a bad thing.
Schlapp went on to say:
Of course lying implies intent. It's done to cover up something one has done or not done, or to make one seem something they are not.
Schlapp seems to be completely confused as to the definition of a fact. For his benefit, though no doubt many others have pointed out his lack of comprehension, a fact is defined as:
1. something that actually exists; reality; truth:
If pointing out when someone isn't telling the truth, does that not make it a fact? Is that not the reality of the situation? That someone lied.
Apparently lying is no big deal to Republicans, and the statement that a man's word is his bond no longer has meaning to them. So lie your ass off. It's no big deal.

Just present the facts and let the American people decide if they think someone’s lying. Journalists shouldn’t be the one to say the president or his spokesperson is lying.

Schlapp went on to say:
I stand by that statement. Lying implies motive. Just cover the facts no matter how ugly and let the voters decide motives and intent.
