Just heard he died... only 49 years old. I loved the Ramones - saw them many times back in the 70's... what a shame...

I didn't quite get what the news report said he died off - Lymcoma or something like that... *sigh*

From the Official Ramones Web Site:

ADIOS AMIGO

NEW YORK CITY, APRIL 15, 2001

OUR BELOVED JOEY RAMONE PASSED AWAY THIS AFTERNOON AT 2:40 PM,

IN A HOSPITAL IN NEW YORK CITY WHERE HE WAS BEING TREATED FOR

CANCER. JOEY'S LOVING FAMILY WAS AT HIS BEDSIDE.

IN THIS MOMENT OF PAIN AND SORROW, LET US FIND COMFORT IN THE WORDS

OF THE KING OF PUNK HIMSELF:

Life's a gas, Life's a gas, Life's a gas, a gas, oh yeah
Life's a gas, Life's a gas, Life's a gas, a gas, oh yeah

So don't be sad 'cause I'll be there
Don't be sad at all

Joey Ramone.

OMG, I just found the news on the Screeching Weasel site. Holy shit...I didn't even know he was sick! This is the saddest day in punk since Tim Yohannon died.

No - I didn't know he was sick either. So its quite a surprise. Hell, there wouldn't have been punk without the Ramones - and without Punk the music scene today would look pretty different. I believe it was an early tour by the Ramones in England that ignited the punk movement over there.

Just don't

bury him inna Pet Sematary....

RIP Joey.

As for me...I wanna be sedated....

Once a punk, always a punk.

Bringing this to the top - just for the fuck of it. Gonna say it again, props to U2 for giving The Ramones some respect.

Who would have ever used the word...

Labotomy in a popular song?

No fucking body - that's who.

Well maybe I would.

Unfortunately outside our area, Sparky (NYC) and among fans I don't think many people did know... *sigh* - They really should have done a tribute last night - again, no disrespect Aaliyah - but you can't tell me that she had/has a more lasting influence on music then Joey?

Beyond Bono/U2 bringing them out - which was cool - a video retrospective would have been really nice.

And yeah, YoungGun - I remember Rock N' Roll high school - hell, I went there! *smile*

Yeah..I remember the day he died.

Gonna remember him now..

*Moment of silence for Joey"
