Joe Strummer Dead at 50

A leftist (liberal) would blame someone else.

I, however, hold you personally responsible for your belief system.

Thank god that I had Joe's music as a balance to the fascist rhetoric of the Reagan era 80's ... We need you now more than ever, Joe.

Hans ~
What the heck are you talking about?
If you don't understand the concept of punk music ... You don't get the meaning behind CBM's choice in avatars.

HINT: It has nuthing to do w/ whatever you are saying ...

SHEEZE ...

Another Icon in music ... gone to heaven ...
To say the lease this is a shock to me, that Strummer died so suddenly.

$500 to anyone with his name/address

Just out of curiousity, who have I committed a crime against? Israel? Their lives are no more or less important than the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis who've died as a result of the gulf war and it's sanctions nor the Palestinians who've died under Israel's oppression.

And, in all seriousness, you are the one who has committed a crime by leveling threats via the internet. Despite the fact that it's childish moronic behavior, it's highly illegal. Keep doing it enough, and someone will sick the FBI on you. Then they'll raid your mother's trailer and arrest your pathetic ass.

I've got his details, but it's gonna cost you more than you could afford.

In my opinion, the Clash sucked. Their rock was tinny and feeble. Now, Rage Against the Machine, there was a bad-ass leftie rock band. Or Fugazi, who I believe were heavily influenced by the Clash but far exceeded their masters.

Clearly you must be quite young. You lack historical perspective. Put within the context of their time, the Clash were (are) brilliant. Yes, Fugazi are also an outstanding band, the other one I don't know much about as I find the music unlistenable but I understand they are politically astute so I wish them the best. However you have to look at this sort of thing chronologically. Of course the earlier stuff sounds thinner. It was earlier.

It's sad that he died so young. & though I didn't love him I think this song is appropriate.

Train in Vain
Say you stand by your man
Tell me something I don't understand
You said you love me and that's a fact
Then you left me, said you felt trapped

Well some things you can explain away
But my heartache's in me till this day

CHORUS
Did you stand by me
No, not at all
Did you stand by me
No way

All the times
When we were close
I'll remember these things the most
I see all my dreams come tumbling down
I won't be happy without you around

So all alone I keep the wolves at bay
There is only one thing that I can say

CHORUS

You must explain why this must be
Did you lie when you spoke to me

Did you stand by me
No, not at all

Now I got a job
But it don't pay
I need new clothes
I need somewhere to stay
But without all these things I can do
But without your love I won't make it through

But you don't understand my point of view
I suppose there's nothing I can do

CHORUS

You must explain why this must be
Did you lie when you spoke to me?

Did you stand by me
Did you stand by me
No, not at all
Did you stand by me
No way
Did you stand by me
No, not at all
Did you stand by me
No way

well it's a great song, but I'm not at all sure why you'd think it was appropriate for the occasion...

He just left too early. and I didn't check but the chorus should be:
"Didn't stand by me"
Now that he's gone he'll never stand by any of us again :(
