There is something paradoxically serious-artist, meryl-streepish about her that makes it amazing that she'd do a film like Requiem, which is a pulverizingly difficult movie to watch...but still shows her "ass to ass."

It depends on the age of the picture. She was voluptuous in her late teens/early 20s, but she lost about 20 pounds several years ago, and (in my opinion) it was very much for the worse. This picture is from when she won her Oscar; it doesn't look like the same woman as in the pics above:
