ok folks...I didn't know where else to post this one...

I'm getting a new pair of jeans for myself as a reward for loosing all the weight I've been trying to...

but the problem is that I haven't gotten any new ones in such a long time that I don't know what the "good" ones are anymore... sexy jeans are great, btw...I want to show off my new shape a bit.

I'd Love to hear some opinions

Thanks!!

It might help if you told us your approximate shopping location, so we could send you to stores that are in your area. Jeans, in my experience, are something you really have to try on, instead of just buy online.

I think your best bet is going to be just going to your local stores, looking for styles YOU like, and trying them on. I know what I like and works for my specific proportions, but I have no clue what will work for you, even if you gave us standard measurements. Likewise, whereas I go for classic fabric (none of that stretch denim crap, please!), colors and style, you may like something completely different, or by trying something new on, you might find something new that really suits you. :)

thanks SE...good start...I didn't think of those things...see it's been a while...I'm in Philly...and have the classic measurements...with 39'' hips...and I'm not very tall...so...I'm actually leaning towards american eagle outfitters...

Well, I do know to elongate your look, you want a straight, rather than tapered, leg, so it gives you a long line from your hips to the ground.

A darker (vs. a light wash) jean is generally more flattering and versatile for different body types and occasions, too.

And remember that if they're 95+% cotton, they're likely to stretch out some while worn and shrink when laundered, so don't go with anything that's too tight or loose in the store. I just made that mistake with a pair of cords...I bought the next size up counting on them shrinking (on the salesgirl's advice  ), but they're way too big after I've worn them for an hour or two.

I always have to try them on because a lot of them are cut too straight through the waist/hips and I have a long torso, even though I'm pretty proportional. It's always been a bitch for me to find pants and 1-piece bathing suits, but I think a lot of us have a tough time.

another good point...I hate trying them on...but at this point I guess I have to...I'm 2-3 sizes smaller than last time I got some...

down side is, as odd as it might sound...I hate going shopping in the mall...

Personally I think the only jeans that really flatter anyone's shape are the lycra-blend ones. The best pair I own came from Rainbow, there is probably one of those in Philly. It's the wrong time of year to buy jeans though, stores mostly carry them in spring and fall.

Another fan of the stretch denim...

Congrats on the weight loss!

I have a terrible time with jeans gapping at my waist -- it's way smaller than my hips (apparently the jeans people only give you a 8-10 inch differential) -- and I have short legs. So I wear low-rise jeans (the kind that hit right at/below your belly button) with straight or (preferably) boot cut legs. The stretch denim seems to be more flattering and it adds less bulk to my legs and butt. Even though you've lost weight, you still might want to look in women's stores, like Torrid and Avenue. I think Lane Bryan carries Seven jeans in plus sizes.

that's a thought...but my dimensions are actually 37-32-40...so I'm around a size 10....

Congrats! And I sympathise with you at the moment... I am on the quest for the perfect jeans!

Several tips that I can offer. First and foremost, bring someone with you, one whose taste and opinion you trust. Jeans can be picky, and if you have lost weight, you will still look at yourself with a different eye (I call it my fat eye, but I tend to be brutal with myself). Another pair of eyes will tell you honestly that the style that suited you before will not now.

2. Jeans stretch, and can stretch upto 6 inches around the waist. Some will suggest a snugger fit precisely because of this phenomena. HOWEVER, it is important to know a pair that'll look good after an hour's wear and one that is too tight. Again, a friend can help.

3. Darker colours tend to be more flattering, but it really depends. Generally, a straight cut lengthens the body. I have never been a fan of tapered legs or skinny jeans. They are hard to pull off, and I never liked the look. Straight legs, boot cuts, even wide legs are much more versatile. You can dress it down for an afternoon or up with heels and a cute top.

4. If you are going for the long leg look, try to make sure that the legs aren't too long. The ruffled leg look (I can't describe it better) can shorten the leg, so if you are going for that style, make sure the scrunches aren't that big.

5. Avoid the swamped, baggy too big look. It'll engulf you.

6. That being said: A friend of mine, although she has a great curves (she isn't thin but well rounded and toned) is about 5 ft. She has a very distinct style, but one that works well with her body. She likes big pants. BUT she makes sure that the hips are fitted and that it flows from her body. It's a look that lengthens her legs, shows off her curves and looks great. Actually, it's a look that can work well on almost all body type.

Oh, and if you're ever bored, here are some sites that can help you. I've blabbed enough.

Good luck.
