James Brown, Rest in Peace

That does suck. :( What a great voice in the music world (and a man who launched so many careers). I loved his appearances in movies as well, he wasn't afraid to laugh at himself. Well, he had a good life and made a huge impact in people's lives...whish we could all say the same. :rose:

there was a great musical artist with seeming unstoppable energy!
he will be missed! :rose:

He was a cool cat that could really belt out a tune. And he sure could dance.

Rest in Peace 'Godfather of Soul'.

I'll bet Heaven is rockin' right about now.

Another one of the great ones gone.

Prolly' got St. Peter doin' the splits.

Peace.

My father didn't believe me when I told him because there was an ad for an upcoming performance of his on the 28th in the paper. I guess he never figured that papers are printed up well in advance of being shipped out, and that he could have died in the interim (like he did).

That special band has another lead vocalist. Bet they will play some good soul today.

It never ceases to amaze me, the large number of asshats who gather on YouTube and talk shit about those who have just died. It happened with Steve Irwin, too. *puke smiley*

The song was made in 1991 - a song about not believing funk being dead - that funk was still alive and thriving.

I guess I'm at the opposite end of this one. There are several classes of people that I despise. Wife beaters are near the top of the list.

RIP to one of the greatest singers and entertainers....

He may have done some fucked up things in his life, but damn he left some awesome music behind...

rip Godfather.

In my time... celebrities have died and I've shrugged.

But for some reason this one shocked me a little (the keanu reaves "Wow!" came out when I read.)

The cat just seemed bigger than life.

Not to condone wife-beating, drunken driving, drug abuse... [some things you need to leave to the professionals, I guess. ]

But without James Brown, there's no Prince. There's no Springsteen. There's no Temptations, no Marvin Gaye, no Jimi Hendrix. No Lennon and McCartney, no Rolling Stones, no Richard Pryor. Probably no rap music at all, and soul, R&B, and likely disco and its descendants are very different. No Donna Summer, no Chaka Khan, no Patti LaBelle. No Chris Rock, no Rick James, no Dave Chappelle.

Would some of these giants find their way to the top? Undoubtedly. Would they be the same? Absolutely not.

Before Hendrix, and after (sadly), James Brown was The Experience. A force of music that needed to be seen to be appreciated. I wish I'd seen him live, that's one on the list that's going to have to be dropped. :(
