I saw the man who wrote "The Christmas Song" - Mel Torme - sing it live quite a few years ago. On my birthday, actually. He was in a double bill with Rich Little, it was an amazing show.

For me, it is NOT Christmas until I hear Bing sing "White Christmas" - although I do love Nat. Have an 8-album Nat collection that I treasure.

I liked some of Mel Torme's songs, but I never really could get into his "Scat" style.

You're right about Bing and White Christmas. And, Christmas isn't the same for my family, until we spend Christmas Eve watching that movie.

Mel Torme

If you listen to Mel's music, only a handful of his songs are "Scat". It's like the brilliant Ella, only some of their repetoire was Scat. He had a wonderful voice, "The Velvet Fog".

I prefer "Holiday Inn" over the movie "White Christmas", as I love Fred Astaire. "White Christmas" is a remake, with more emphasis on the Christmas theme.

For TV? Have to see "Charlie Brown" - STILL the best special ever made for the season, even 40 years later. Hard to believe I've seen it that many times.

The "Pinky and the Brain" Christmas special has some fun, warped moments too.
