Jade's World on Lit

So what happened to them? Why aren't there any around if they were so great?
There's a few reasons. They couldn't get the best movies. They cost more to run than a regular theater. The technology couldn't keep up when theaters upgraded. The one close to me in Tacoma became a bunch of office buildings.

Drive ins were almost always double features. They were great double date venues. We would switch partners for the second film...we'd bring our own beverages...and getting high is an inadequate term. We'd get so stoned...

Wow! I could so do that. :D:heart:

They actually do more of the same things in parks and stuff, albeit kid friendly movies.
You could even get the stuff for your back yard if you like.

Times changed JJ, drive-in played the movies that had already been in the theaters, or were the B role movies that we now know as direct-to-video. So cable TV and video rentals in combination with urban sprawl killed the drive-ins off in a lot of places. That's a shame because they were of great value for families and teens that only had limited means. Lots of teenagers found out all about sex in their back seats with more than a few babies being made. Good times.

To go back to PG or G for a second. I remember seeing the Jungle Book (cartoon) at the drive-in...
