I feel that she is feeling better already! I am so happy that you both went ahead with it. It may take a little while to heal, but she will get the iron infusions so much easier now. May God bless both of you.

Hope ya'll are having a good weekend.

Jacqline - I am fine. I was pretty sick this last week. I think it is from me quit taking Vioxx. They gave it to me for my shoulder, but it helped my arthritis and the migraines. I would be awaken with a migraine and hurting from head to toe, it seemed. And then the pain would get so bad I got nauseaus and sick at my stomach. I go back to the dr. on 10/26. I hope that they can find something that I will be able to take that will take the pain away but not cause me more medical problems or hurt my stomach. Hope all is well with you. The storms took out my piower supply last weekend too! So that is why I was MIA. I got the computer fixed Friday, finally. I hate to be without my computer!!!!!

Take care and have a good week.  :rose:

I am so sorry that you are going through this, sweetie! There are a lot of good sources online to do your homework on that. I find WebMD a good place to get my questions answered. There are a host of others as well. I am sure they are addressing these questions right now. I would be looking that up and seeing which one may fit for you so maybe Dr. could give you some samples to try first, then fill the prescription if it does work.

Sending you lots of hugs, positive thoughts, and healing. I hate for you to be in any pain my sweet sis!{{{{{{{{{{{{{Toni}}}}}}}}}}}}}}  :rose:

It sounds like that was definitely the right choice to make. I hope she doesn't overdo with her new found energy. I am sure she is just thrilled to be doing some things that she has been so wanting to do for so long, though. Good for both of you!

{{{{{{{{{{{{{Ljmo}}}}}}}}}}}}} I am glad that you got to go to the race. It is something I know that you love to do as well.

{{{{{{{{{{Toni}}}}}}}}}}}Listen to Bob's suggestions about the possible drugs to try (he is a pharmacist) but I would still ask the Dr. for samples to use first. Last July when I hurt my knee so badly, the Dr. gave me a two week supply of three different kinds to try to see which one worked best. Unfortunately for me, all three made the foot of the hurt knee swell up so my shoes wouldn't fit. It is always good to try it out before you have to pay for the prescription.

When my children were young teenagers, I taught them how to separate their laundry and do it. I told them that it would help them when they got out on their own (and it did, they thanked me later).

I also taught them how to cook. They were both good cooks and my son had quite a few things he was good at. It got so we all took different days of the week to cook so nobody had the big burden since all of us had a busy schedule.

My daughter and son in law love to cook together. They are the best gourmet cooks. I really have to watch my carbs when I go there and they are the doctors!

my mom taught me and my older brother how to seperate and do the laundry and how to cook when we were about 9, that is when my younger brother was born. It might have been even before that for some things. My younger brother never had to do it much, but we did. And we were able to do all those things when we got out on our own. I am so surprised at all the kids, especially girls, that are in their 20's and even some in 30's who do not know how to cook or do laundry. And most of these are looking desperately for a husband. Well my opinion is that most men will not want to marry a woman who cannot do these things. I am not saying that they have to be great at it, but it gets awful expensive to eat out all the time and noone wants to have their clothes ruined because of someone not knowing how to care for them. I have taught Daniel. He has always wanted to help with cooking, even before starting school, but we started out slow. And now he can fix tuna mac very well, lol. He definitely can work the microwave but I have also taught him how to read a recipe and how to cook other things. It is just that he prefers to do things that do not require alot of time or energy to prepare them. He also can do the laundry and he is actually teaching my dad to do it!!!! Dad does so/so. He has turned somethings pink by putting something red in the light clothes,etc.. but we are getting him there! However, even though Daniel knows HOW to do all this, he doesn't. He is soooo lazy and wants everyone to wait on him!!! But I told him that if I start to give him an allowance and he does not do the things he is supposed to do, it will be deducted from his allowance, because I don't believe in giving kid allowance just to be giving it to them. He has to earn it! I am also going to teach him how to budget his money, etc.. I am reading a really good book right now that my mom had. It is called No Debt No Sweat and it teaches about financial things from aspect of how the Bible talks about them and then tells somethings that he and his family have done to get out of debt. It is very interesting. I have not started to use some of his tips yet. I am going to read the whole book and then take what I learn to get it all started and setup.

Hope everyone is having a good day! Take care. Hugs

Thanks, Toni! What a wonderful story. You won't believe this, but my Mom wouldn't let me learn how to cook or do laundry growing up. (I think it was a control issue).

When I was around 12, I got a job with a neighbor and helped her clean house and weed, etc. She taught me everything about cleaning thoroughly so at least I knew that! A few years later, another woman hired me to iron their family's laundry (she paid me very well).

When I got married at 19, I had a good job as a waitress. I knew how to do that, cook and iron. I knew how to make baked potatoes and steak. I got out a cook book and taught myself how to cook. I have to admit that my ex bragged about my cooking. My Mom gave me a paperback book on how to do laundry and that is how I taught myself how to do that. I have always been an independent woman and strong. I always seem to find a way to do things even if I don't know how to do them.

Anyway, it sounds like a good book you have there. I also like your philosophy about the allowance. He will learn to appreciate it if he earns it. Besides, you deserve to have help around the house and he is more than capable to help you. You work so hard physically and have all the housework on top of your job not to mention all the activities. I admire all you do, my friend, and I am so proud of you!:rose:

My grandmother never did any of those things growing up either. Her mom wouldn't let her. They were poor and I guess she didn't want her to break the dishes,etc...she was an only child her dad died when she was about 12, I think, he had some lung disease. Probably tb. So she never had much but what she had was hers. And then she married my granddad and he taught her how to cook and clean, etc.. and he told her that he would do it until she learned how and then it would be her job to do that, as he worked sometimes 2 jobs to support the family. They ended up having 8 kids. My grandmother was very spoiled, but I can't even begin to wonder what it was like to have everything being yours to having 8 kids where you know that someone was always getting something that was yours. My granddad also grew up with alot of fighting among the parents and moving all the time and he told her that he would not argue with her. My grandmother could definitely get on your very last nerve and keep going to get a fight started, but my Mom said that he would get mad, but he would just walk off to keep from fighting and he would tell her... I told you I am not going to fight with you. I grew up with alot of fighting, arguing etc.. also. I hate it. So I TRY not to do that. Not having a husband may help some. But when it comes to my son reaching those pre-teen years and gettting a little smart mouth...it infuriates me! I try to talk things out with him, but from time to time I think it is good to totally lose it and yell at him. Then it gets his attention and lets him know that this will not be tolerated. And he looks at me like what is wrong with you? Why are you gettting so mad. We moved alot when I was younger. I hate to move also. And I always hated being the new kid on the block and at school. I think that is why I was so shy. Daniel definitely cannot say that. He has only lived at my mom/dad's and our house. I moved here a few months before he turned 4.

Hope you have a great weekend. Take care and get some rest.
It has been cool here lately. It is supposed to get up to 80 today, but it feels good at night and in the mornings. I think fall is finally reaching TX.

Good to know how

I had to learn how to do most domestic duties very early on. Some of them I wanted to do, others I was forced to do and the rest defaulted to me. I started into scouting when I was 8 years old and that is when I started learning to cook. I had already been doing regular household chores along with an older brother, younger sister and younger brother. Chores, I didn't like. But cooking was something that I liked and I was good at. I was preparing full meals when I was 8 as well as making cookies, pies and cakes by myself. That was back when mixes were terrible so I made everything from scratch. When I was 11, I took a cake to a woman who owned a dance studio in my uncle's building next door to us (we lived in the back of my dad's business which was part of a 7 store chain of buildings.) This woman offered a piece to the mother of one of her students who owned a bakery. She was so impressed that she wanted to hire me until she found out how old I was. Cooking was also a necessity. My father tried many businesses that failed, so my mother had to work to support the family. This did not give her very much time or energy to cook many creative meals. We had a lot of macaroni with tomato sauce and hamburger or boiled potatoes with hamburger gravy and things like that. I realized that if I wanted to have more variety and creative meals I was going to have to do more of the cooking and experimenting. I had to teach my wife a lot about cooking after we got married also. My wife and I taught our kids how to cook. Our son was so proud of himself when he fixed Campbells Chicken Noodle soup for the first time by hemself at 15. OK he didn't take to it very well and only makes a few things well. Our two daughters learned fairly well, but were spoiled for a long time. There were many dishes that they wouldn't eat unless I fixed them. It was only a week ago that I got my older daughter to eat a chicken fried steak in a restaurant. For 15 years she would only eat it if I made it. The younger daughter would only eat eggs if I fixed them. Now that she is married and a mother, thing have changed. I just enjoy cooking.

When I was growing up, ironing was my sister's job. I didn't like the way she ironed my shirts and pants, so I decided that if I wanted them done a certain way, I would have to do them myself. I lived out on my own for a while after high school and before I got married, so I had to do most everything for myself unless I could con a female friend into doing it for me. I guess I wasn't very nice, but I was working the summers in a National Park and had a lot of nice girls around who were happy to help me out. Now it is my time to be doing the helping out and all of this experience has come in handy. My wife has just had another set-back. The other morning we discovered that the drain from our garbage disposal had separated from the main drain and had been going inside and under the cabinet for several days. This led to a build up of mold from the water and food particles. My wife tried to clean up the mess so that I could fix the plumming. Well, we both did our jobs, but she had a problem. She had a severe alergic reaction to the mold and now it is hard for her to eat, breath or move around without a lot of coughing and pain. This leaves most of the upkeep of the house to me. My daughter helps a little, but she is a first year teacher and is slowly tapering off from her previous job.

I think that it is so important for parents to learn how to do everything around the house and to teach their children as much as they can also. That way they can do whatever is needed when they have to or just be able to share whenever they want to.
