It's TOO BIG (the General Board, i mean)

no, this isnt about dick.

it's about the fact that so many threads get pushed out of the way so quickly. so i think the general board should be split into sex related and non-sex related. if that happened, i guess there would be problems if this post was about dick as well. so maybe there could be a third category.

that's my two cents. anybody agree?

Its a bit of a catch 22 situation, either we spend a lot of time reading the one board to keep up or we end up jumping from board to board in order to understand what is going on.
I can't see what difference it would make, unless you are only interested in reading threads of either a certain nature e.g. sexual or non sexual etc

I was going to bring up the same topic - but was waiting a couple weeks to see how things were going...

I also thing the General Board is too big - a thread I might find interesting can in a matter of an hour be buried so many pages back that I'd never find it.

And, of course, there are other boards here - one for story/poetry feedback, an editor's forum, personals and others...

Perhaps a few more boards with specific purpose/topics would help relieve the congestion on the general board. I'm not sure that sex/non-sex is the way to go but its one idea. Its hard not to bring sex into most topics in an erotic site...

Lavy's idea of a separate board for "chatting" is pretty good. Back about a year ago there was a fair controversy going on in the GB between those who thought that chat should be confined to the chatroom and those who just wanted to chat. Perhaps a board for "chatting" might allow people who want to just discuss the "weather" that opportunity and allow others to have more long term ongoing discussions on specific topics.

Maybe a board for political debate?

Another one for posting pictures - the lingerie, cameltoe, look at my cock, type threads?

What else? I'm sure we could come up with quite a few... and if Laurel/Manu are interested perhaps some of them might come to fruition.

Yes. My thoughts follow the same line as all that posted. More focussed forums might help us to find and post to the threads we really enjoy without them getting lost in the shuffle.

seeing the recent thread titled "a..b..c.." (or something. i cant remember now), perhaps a section just for games would be good.

perhaps too many boards would be a bad idea, but at the very least a bunch of suggestion could be thrown out and the head honchos could make the final decisions.

I agree with lobito. I like having all the different topics under one roof. It would be hard to catagorize certain threads. Sexual and non-sexual would be a nightmare to try and control.

I mean, I would be soooo confused as to where to post!!

I think the General Board should remain, with the addition of a board called "Flirting".

Maybe there should also be a board called.... "A Room". .... I mean, how many times have I read a thread and thought to myself..... "those two (or more) should get a room."

Another possibility is a board called "Outside". At least when people start fighting on the another board.... everyone could tell them to "take it outside" and they would have a place to go.

I'm sure some people think there should be a board for political discussions, but I'm not sure most of us would post there if we didn't think we had an audience. We know we're not going to persuade any of the other posters... so who are we posting for if not the silent audience?

Maybe there should also be a board called "Ranting" or possibly "Bitching". I'm sure there are times we would all use that board to get things off our chests.

These are just a few ideas..... worth exactly what they cost you.

I love the General Board for it's variety.

I see something else that contributes to the size of it: thread-starter style.

For example, I think that daughter & TigerJen do an excellent job of sheparding their threads. They respond to the posts, which keeps the thread in position. daughter does better than anyone I've noticed for keeping it on topic. TigerJen is paricularly friendly to everyone who visits her threads.

Now if we each modeled their approach, & if we didn't start a new thread before our last one sunk off of the front page, wouldn't that reduce the size & the clutter of the general board? If I just wanted to be sociable, & people weren't responding to my thread very often, I'd go to somebody else's thread & be a better listener. (daughter is a good listener , too).
Good listeners make good friends. They'll want to visit you , too.

I've only been here on general board a month. What do our veterans think of this approach to the issue?

What about the posts that you knoe aren't ginuine? The posters, (or post-persons, i'm just assuming they're guys...) , that come and waste spaces.

Earlier today, for example, I was reading a thread started by "SikFuk"....(that might not be it, but it's pretty close), about masturbating on his little sister! And I know it was bullshit because there was a "FukSik" on the thread that was supporting the argument. Now this post-person was keeping that particular thread at the top of the board, while others...that might not have been 'brain-buster's' granted, but were actual threads...were rapidly sliding to the bottom and off the first page.

Is this a valid argument? Can this kind of situation be controlled?
I honestly enjoy reading many of the veteran's pieces. Although you all have very warped senses of humor, sometimes I just can't stop laughing at the lot of you all going off on each other like the eight stooges on crack.

Well good luck on finding some guidelins that might improve Lit...If that's even possible...

Having to many board catagories would get to confusing. I come to the GB for the diversity in the posts.. I like the fact that I can see a fight.. see a nude picture.. and flirt with someone all in the same place. I have way to many threads open at one time now.. I don't need several different boards and threads open at the same time also..

When I logged in tonight, there were four pages of threads that had posts since I last read last night. It didn't take me long to get through them and pick and choose what I wanted to read or respond to. I like having choices and the GB gives me lots of choices.


Texan had some good suggestions. My only question is what happens when someone goes to "A Room" or "Outside." Do the voyeurs in the rafters get to tag along?

It would be easier to do that if search worked properly... (I know Lit is working on it... but I want my search!)

As far as picking and choosing - the size of the board these days has also greatly slowed things down... I could leave for an hour or two right now, come back and some threads that were started could be 5 or more pages back - and that can take a great deal of time to search through, to see if there is anything interesting.

Also - from a technical point of view - it might speed things up...

I go to several Message boards.. some with NO ONE posting on it for days.. and others, like this one, with thousands of people posting at any given time.

I'm not entirely sure that more boards is the answer. I love the General Board because of its diversity. I don't want to have to visit 5 or 6 boards to have the same conversations I can have here. If I'm particularly interested in where a thread is going, I'll subscribe to it, makes it a lot easier to find.

I CAN see adding a 'chat' board, but that's about it. We could shift all the "Hi, how are ya's" over there... but I also think that A LOT of the threads that are started everyday could have been just as effective in PM's to the people mentioned instead of sucking up board space....

I like having everything all on one board. That's what makes it so interesting. You can reply to whats on the first three pages, or go searching for something that piques your interest.
I would hear from a lot less people if I had to go 5 different places looking for them.
