Cheesy I know, but I still like it. Can't remember where I read it, but it always comes to mind when someone brings ups things like your original line.
Someone asked me once would I rather be right or at peace. On my better days, I opt for peace. The other person likely isn't going to care if I'm right. Being right, but also pissed isn't as attractive as it used to be.

There are philosophers who made wonderful arguments against human beings having any ability to be certain of objective reality. It they were right arguments are mearly faint breezes in the cosmos. But of course they are wrong. Or are they. Hey i think I am dreaming this. Or perhaps I have a fever, or maybe, just maybe i am quite insane. Damn now I am confused.
