It's not so much that others will teach you something....

It's that you can learn about yourself from how you treat others.

You know thats so true! I was always taught as a child to treat people the same way we want to be treated - its an adage that I have passed on to my children.
When I was in primary school our school song was "Try a little kindness", we had to sing it on assembly every morning. It sure beats the school songs of today. I often think of the words to that song now when I am frustrated with someone.

I don't remember all the words to the song, and you probably already have heard it anyway, but here goes:

If you see your brother standing by the road
With a heavy load from the seeds he's sowed
And if you see your sister falling by the way
Just stop and stay you're going the wrong way

You got to try a little kindness
Yes show a little kindness
Just shine your light for everyone to see
And if you try a little kindness
Then you'll overlook the blindness
Of narrow-minded people on the narrow-minded streets

Don't walk around the down and out
Lend a helping hand instead of doubt
And the kindness that you show every day
Will help someone along their way

Aww, that's a beautiful song. And it definetly has words to live by.

Better than counting to 10!

Cath,

That is so very true. While I was growing up, my mother instilled in us the fine art of dealing with people. She always told us to treat other people the same way we'd want them to treat us.

What I see, now, though, saddens me greatly. I see many people treating people without respect. I saw some of it when I was teaching. A small number of children weren't being taught that, not to mention their parents who showed little of it, also.

A little kindness can go a very long way. And, as we've been taught, it will always come back to you in some way - it might not be something tangible, but you will be rewarded in some way.

How true. One of these days I hope I am lucky to meet you

or one of the more eloquent ladies above me? Either way...this statement hit so close to home today...it was a line out of my horoscope.

what a coincidence

My horoscope said "Kindness goes a long way when the moon is in the 7th house. Your Lucky color is Purple. Buy IBM. Don't quit your day job. Be open to an advance from an unexpected direction. Read about learning."

I'll by no means butcher that beautiful language by attempting a reply in kind. However, I didn't drink enough rum to buy IBM, and you know I'm not much for horoscopes... so I believe more in making luck than following such feckless offerings.

At times, much can conspire to distract and confuse. At times, those who are adept with the english language should set it aside and listen, instead, to their hearts, i loro sogno.
