It's a little late but just a reminder

Is that New York City or New York State?

LOL No, most of us in the State will more than likely ask which borough, though if you sound snotty, we'll know you're from the Upper Westside

Outside of the City.

And, you mean Upper East Side. UWS'ers are more bohemian/artsy-fartsy types, with the exception of those living on CPW.

I grew up in Queens. "I'm headed to the city" meant that you're going to Manhattan. If you're going to one of the other boroughs, you'd name them.

Thanks, one of them sides

When I heard someone say they were headed back to the city, I know they don't mean Manhattan, maybe because I knew they were from the other boroughs.

And "The Island" meant Lawn Guyland.

Sure, if they're upstate, they might say they have to get back to "the city," to differentiate from the rest of the state. I could even imagine someone from Long Island saying it.

But within the boroughs, "The City" means one thing: Manhattan.

They didn't call the book and the show "Sex And The City" because Carrie Bradshaw was living in a 1BR walkup in Canarsie.
