I must be overlooking something. I have submitted 23 stories and never had this problem. I am previewing a story before submission. I find that for some reason, sections I have put in italics have copied to the submission, but not in italics. I click on "make changes" and can find no way to Italicize. What am I stupidly missing. I know my other stories have italics.

I'm just copying here for you PennLady's helpful advice about how to put italics in a story. It may be that you already did this, but the italics are not appearing. If so, best is to PM Laurel and ask her what is happening. (PM, not email, she never answers emails. She is pretty prompt and courteous about answering PMs.)

You just need to put HTML tags around the text. For italics, use <i> and </i> around the text; for bold, <b> and </b>. I put these in as I type, along with the actual formatting. It really is so much easier all around. Then when I'm ready, I just copy the text in the document and when I paste it, the actual formatting is gone but the tags are there to preserve it in the submission.

(Thank you PennLady! :rose:)

If you are previewing, then you must have pasted your text into the submission box, yes? So you must have put italics tags in your text -- I can't think why the italics would be there in the preview otherwise.

I think that you may lost the italics if, for example, you have italicized a section of text that is split over a page break. If this is the problem you'd need to note that text in the preview and where the break is, then go to "Make Changes" and find that section in your text and put the italics tags in.

I hope that makes sense.

thanks

thanks for your attempts to help me. I only copy and paste from Open Office. I never knew I had to format or put tags (?) in. I tried putting the italics tags on but all it did was copy them.

I have messaged Laurel and assume she will help me.

Sorry for the angry face. I meant it to be frustration.

Be sure there are no spaces between the characters: <i> not , < i >. That could be your problem. I noticed the forum uses square brackets , not the triangular ones < i >. You could try that. I use Open Office and I've never had an issue, although I can't remember if I used italics last time.

Yes, the forum uses square brackets ( [ ] ), but the story file has to use angle brackets ( < > ).

Well, shit! I wish I'd asked this question years ago.
