I just wrote the final words, completing my first story in over two months.

When I first started here, I was cranking out a story almost once a week. Granted, they were very short, very simple tales.

As time has gone on, my writing has slowed considerably, for various reasons.

I'd find myself with plenty of ideas, but none complete. I still have a folder with several unfinished stories.

I've been trying to expand my horizons, write something DIFFERENT.

And the one I finished tonight certainly qualifies.

It's definitely outside of my normal wheelhouse, but it's consumed me the past several weeks of writing. In a good way.

I've also had help; a friend, offering advice, criticism and inspiration along the way.

Their help has been invaluable. They know who they are, and I suppose once the story is published it will become obvious, but for now I'll let them decide how much they want to be known, so for the moment I'll just say THANK YOU.

It feels so fucking GOOD to finally have finished a story again.

It still needs editing and revisions, and I'm hoping to work on those over the next day or two.

But getting it done is such a relief. And I really feel like i stuck the landing.

I don't know if it's my "best" work. But it's definitely unique lol.

I hope no one minds this post, just needed somewhere to express my joy at completing a tale that I'm really looking forward to publishing very soon.

Congratulations! Doesn't matter if it's good, bad or indifferent. Just getting it done must feel great.

It does, especially because my main fear was the problem I've had with several other stories currently unfinished: picking a direction, committing to it, and finding a solid ending.

I'm a Seat Of My Pants writer, which serves me well until I realize i never figured out what the point was, what goal I was aiming for, something to bring it home.

So finding that here was a relief. Because I love the concept for this story, but with no solid ending, it would be just another in the Unfinished folder.

I know the feeling. It's like a weight coming off you when you finally get those last few words out. I'll have to read it once it done.
Congrats!

I know the feeling exactly. When I started writing first, I was so enthusiastic that I used to publish a 10k words story every 5-6 days or so. I've slowed down a lot now, so when I do actually publish something (chapters are now 15-30k words), the feeling is so different.
Congratulations ;)

My last published story emptied out my partials file. I had had a file of various incomplete fragments, some of which were in there for years. I gradually finished them all. The last one I posted was the last of those. Then I sat for a week or so with an empty file, going, "what now?"

Now I have about a dozen new ones started, just a paragraph or few on each. The next few years worth, perhaps.

Good on you! Finishing a story is worthy of a post, some days.

I have half of a dozen in Purgatory, waiting for a spark to push me to finish them. Unfortunately, spring is here and with it SO MANY house projects, they may well remain in the abyss for a while.

I have a Nude Day Event story languishing in Purgatory because I couldn't commit to a direction on it enough to finish the damn thing.

I'm gonna give myself a few days after finishing and publishing this story, then get back to work on it.

I think this new story has helped me understand I can try new things and different directions from the "norm."

I am guessing part of the problem is people like your Jenna stories. So you want to keep writing what the people want to read but at the same time you don't want to write about the same handful of characters. Glad you are writing something new.

There's a little bit of that for sure. Not that I don’t still enjoy writing the Jenna series, despite, in all honesty, the dwindling readership. I'd still write them even if I was the only one still reading.

But I did need a break from them. And inspiration for something different.

Really hoping to submit my new story by tonight and hopefully publish by the weekend.

Edited, re-edited, proofread by my partner, suggestions made, still more edits, tweaks, additions and subtractions.

And finally hit SUBMIT tonight.

I gotta walk away, or I'll be editing it yet again lol.

At some point I just have to let go.

Except....during all of this, I stumbled on an idea for a prequel already 🤣.

I'm assuming it's probably too late for a Sunday publication. Maybe by Monday?

Well done! It always feels great to sign off on a story you're happy with. I look forward to reading it. 👍👍👍

Thanks to all for the friendly and encouraging replies.

And I promise, I'm not gonna make a post like this for EVERY new story I finish.

It wasn't some secret agenda to try and coax people to read it. Just letting out some relief at finally getting something done with writing again.

I'm thinking of doing an IT'S STARTED thread when I kick off my next story series. Or is that just way too much? 🤔 😜

Rather than start my own thread, I’m hijacking this one 😬.

I’ve also finished my latest story, which has ended up (at over 30k words and being the concluding part of a 60k words trilogy) becoming my (to date) magnum opus (or is that magnum octopus?).

I’ve done one overall edit and will probably do at least a second. It’s for Geek Pride, so I have time to let it mature a little.

Never intended it to be this big a deal, but here we are.

Short stories here I come!

Em
