arnold vinick (alan alda)was a character in the west wing, a california republican senator who ran for election. the show introduced a democratic congressman from texas (jimmy smits). EJ and i discussed for a long time who the show's writers would have winning the election. i held that b/c the sitting president in the show (jed bartlett, played by martin sheen) was a democrat, they would continue that party affiliation, while EJ felt that it was too predictable to play out that way.

eventually, it became a game b/n the two of us, always taking digs at the one character or the other.
