And it appears I am getting another raise. I don't even know how much more yet. I will have to check it out on my next pay check. I have been working 9 hour days the last few weeks so I think I am going to break the $700 a week mark next week (I used to average $500 a month at the last two places).

Both my ancient Volvos need new MOTs(annual roadworthiness tests) within a week. That's more money.

And I have to pay for son-in-law's MOT within a fortnight.

We have a short break planned for the week of the EU referendum. Today I asked for the forms to send for postal votes.

But family problems could mean that our short trip has to be cancelled, and not for a reason that would invoke the cancellation insurance, so we would lose the total cost of the holiday.

If that means that the recurring family problem is finally addressed it would be worth it but the signs aren't good.

Well, the forthcoming Referendum has caused deep divisions between me and an old friend. What a pity.

For the benefit of those unfamiliar with this bloody thing, perhaps I should explain a little.
There are a large number of ordinary folk thoroughly p1$$ed off with the EU, for a variety of reasons [we are a sovereign nation and don't really fancy a 'federal state of Europe,' and there are far too many immigrants, both from EU member states and RoW.]. So we were promised a referendum to see how many of the ordinary people really want to stay in this bureaucratic trap.
The vote is in 4 weeks or so.

My view of the EU referendum is that we are not being asked the question we should have been able to ask:

Would you want the EU to be reformed to make it more accountable to the electors of Europe?

David Cameron's renegotiation was blocked from the beginning and even then the tiny concessions he has gained are not guaranteed to be implemented.

What I want is a reformed EU but voting to remain within the EU won't deliver that.

I have no problem with immigrants from within the EU coming to the UK to work because their own countries don't have jobs for them. What I don't want are massive numbers of immigrants from outside the EU coming to the UK because of EU rules.

The problem I have with the number of EU migrants is that houses and schools aren't being provided for them in sufficient quantities. We ought to have a substantial house building programme that accepts we need homes for everyone in the UK, including massive numbers of social housing that people could actually afford, not the stupid 'affordable homes' legislation which provides home people CAN'T afford.

I want a reformed EU that can count its money (the accounts haven't been approved for years) and recognises that individual states within the EU want to do things their own way, but most of all gives power back to countries and to the elected European Parliament, not unelected commissioners.

I won't get that. The UK won't get that. Nor will Austria, Greece, Denmark, The Netherlands and so on.

So reluctantly I'm likely to vote to leave because the EU administration is a cluster fuck and despite growing protest votes against it the administration seems determined to carry on its disastrous course of more and more central control.

It's the ones outside the EU which are causing the real trouble, although I have heard that some 'incidents' are not being reported (attacks on western women, for example, or "we want Sharia" as if such incidents are just unclear to them).

What I think we need is a revised EFTA.
and we do NOT need TTIP and things being negotiated in secret.
