An old friend of mine called me up earlier this evening. He wanted to know if I could give him a ride to work in the morning. When I asked how early he had to be at work, he laughed.

He had seen the newish shallow draft boat I had acquired recently and figured with all the rain we've had, it would be the perfect way to get to work.

I have to agree with him. So much for the drought.

Been a week since that woman asked to reschedule our date, but never got back to me. What the hell? Eight women have agreed to go out on a first date with me over the years but only three of them actually ever did. Is this just me? I never hear about this as being a problem for other people...

I just scratched on a simple lunch date. It wasn't really for safety reasons, the guy was just not getting his act together properly.

However I am very cautious about dating - any sensible woman is. Like, when that fit businessman called Christian :D tried to get me to go to his flat with him for 'a cup of tea', I refused and said we could go to the cinema and for afternoon tea out somewhere.

He said he would get back in touch and never did! so I think it happens all the time. I feel heartened that it happens to you too, it must be a normal feature of dating and not because I am a 52 year old ex-rugby player with mommy fat ;).

That is a problem. I tried using the full screen toggle thing {those little squares by the red x} to switch the screen to the other mode and then scooting the screen over. That works pretty well if you'd like to try that.

I just have to be so careful. People know I do the smut reviewing and writing - solely for feminist moral educational purposes, OF COURSE ;), so I try a bit harder to make sure nobody can say I exposed Piggles to anything improper. Although I made an error in judgement the other day and let her watch Pitch Perfect, which is a proper 12 cert, unlike Clueless. We both enjoyed it very much! and the only thing she asked about was: "What is a 'slut'?" :D (check my tag line to the left).

If you are using Firefox (and presumably, others) get the gen on NoSpam.
Worth its weight in Gold.

Hmmm ... I sometimes do see quite a funny advert though. Like that time I shared a picture of two old ladies holding a sign saying 'Fuck the police' and immediately got an advert for single police officers in my area.

I wonder if anybody would miss me if I left Lit...

I miss flirting with you on the underwear thread! That was such fun. :nana::heart::kiss:

One of the disadvantages of living beside the sea:

This morning I noticed that the exhaust on my older Volvo was more noisy than usual. I took it to the local exhaust replacement experts, who usually give me a good deal, slightly more expensive than others further away but the difference is not worth the extra hassle and fuel.

Once up on the ramp, I didn't have one exhaust leak. I had four small ones. The whole system was rusty from engine to the rear, damaged by sea spray. One of the flanges on the catalyser had almost vanished.

The cost (including Chamber of Commerce discount) £400.

Ouch!

Some sort of championship series, then ?

Yes, for the Stanley Cup, the oldest sports trophy in North American sports. Unfortunately, my team lost their series, so my interest in following the playoffs has pretty much evaporated.

Not nice.
Is the replacement of stainless steel ?

Thank you. I'll look that up

peeewwwwwwww!

For the second night in a row one of my dogs must have walked into a skunk; yep, got sprayed. Then came and rolled around on the bed to get the smell off.:eek: the first night I was too comatose to do anything but live through it, but tonight I gave her a bath with tomato paste (what we happened to have around for sauce). It's a tad better now, after some liberal Febreezing! Agh, I think I'm going to puke!

I don't know about the bedspread, maybe a soak in oxyclean, but for the dog I know a home skunk neutralizer that really works is two quarts of hydrogen peroxide mixed with a half cup or so of baking soda and a teaspoon of dawn dish liquid. Sponge on and let air dry then brush out. Can lighten the dogs fur but really works on the smell.

Thank you for the tip, I'll try it. Anything that has any chance of working!

Earthquake!

My house shook at 3.00 am BST this morning as an earthquake hit East Kent.

That's the third earthquake I have experienced - one in Gibraltar, and one in East Kent near Folkestone a few years ago.

By earthquake standards it was a small one - 4.2. My immediate reaction was 'Bloody Cats!' because I thought they were in my bedroom and had knocked something over. But it was stronger than anything they could do at their worst.

My house is undamaged as are the contents.

The impact was about the same as the Army exploding redundant explosives at Shoeburyness in Essex.

I know that feeling, Ogg.
A year or three ago, at some strange hour of the night, the earth shook; and then shook some more.

I was upstairs and wondered how I would get out of the wreckage of my house. . .
Fortunately, it dod not last too long.

We once heard a loud crash in the middle of the night which woke both of us out of a sound sleep. We turned to each other, said "Cats." and promptly went back to sleep.

When we woke up the next morning, we were rather surprised to see a large oak tree had fallen and had barely missed the roof.
