I have money again! I got paid up through December, and could technically pay off my car loan right here and now, but I am going to wait and see if I get back to work when I am supposed to before jumping in like that.

Funny how money goes out quicker than it comes in.

Still need to see Thor: Dark World. Looking forward to the new Captain America movie.

Just got a copy of Thor: Dark World. Saw it in the theaters and while I didn't like it quite as much as the first Thor it was still a pretty good movie.

I guess we'll have to contain any impatience and await it's being over here.
And not just in the smoke.

My father-in-law passed a couple of hours ago. :( Sad for my husband and his family, and my kids, but relieved he isn't suffering anymore.

I am deeply sorry. :( Sending kind thoughts to you and all your family.

Thanks, John. He was a good man, and we'll miss him. However, he had been fighting cancer for three or so years, and had gone into the hospital last week with various problems, although not all cancer-related.

The odd things is I'm home with our kids while my husband went to be with his family. Part of me feels like we should go, but I don't think there's anything we can do and there won't be any services. Plus, my husband's three sisters are there with their husbands, and his niece came down and his nephew and his wife and 18mo child -- I think my kids and I would just kind of add to any chaos, plus my kids are in school. So I guess we'll wait and see what my husband wants.

I know the feeling, especially with someone who has been in bad shape for that long. On one hand you are slightly relieved that they are no longer suffering. But on the other hand, you still feel upset and angry that they were taken. But that's why friends who are there to support you are wonderful.

Yes, condolences.

Thank you.

Yes, I'm glad he's with his mom and sisters and some other relatives. I feel odd, perhaps a little guilty, that I'm not there but I keep coming back to the fact that we have two kids in school and so there's not much I could really do there.

Kind of wish Mr. Penn would call, though; my son will be home soon and I want to tell the kids, but he wanted to be part of that conversation if he could.

Thank you.

Best of luck on breaking the news. Not fun at all. :(

Actually it went differently and I guess better than I expected. My daughter is five (six in April), and kind of understands but kind of doesn't. She asked some questions -- including "Will Grandma get married again?" -- but other than that and saying she was kind of sad, did not get at all upset. My son made an odd and what he said was angry gesture, then went upstairs and called and spoke to his uncle.

It occurred to me that perhaps I was kind of dragging it out more than I needed to, so I stopped.

My husband will call later, of course, and his sister (wife of aforementioned uncle) will call as well.

It's just odd to be up here away from it all. But truth is, we're the only people involved with school-age kids, so it wasn't easy or feasible for us to drop everything, pull the kids out of school, etc., and go down when the only to do was wait.

Anyway, thanks for all of the good wishes.

Glad it wasn't too bad, still not fun though. I have a "not while I'm at work" rule with my family about these things. Don't need those kind of things on my mind.

Quite reasonable. My husband and I had agreed that we would not tell the kids just before bed, or in the morning before school. No sense going to sleep or school with that fresh on their minds.

This is the never ending job.

Does it involve hands?

Yes yes yes! I got paid! First proper pay cheque in four months! Whoo-hoo! I took Piglet and her piglet friend to the expensive pool with flumes! then we went to IKEA and stuffed our faces! and I bought STUFF that I didn't really need, I just liked it!

I am going to buy clothes for Piglet and chocolate and domestic cleaning substances which I have been skimping on for days waiting to be paid! I am going to buy DVDs at a very cheap rate cuz they are really ancient romcoms which nobody but me and Piglet want to watch! I am going to buy nice wine and even nicer whisky! I am going to pay myself back my birthday money and buy a MATCHING purse and handbag!

I am going up the Valleys on the train for afternoon tea!!!!

Hello Duchess. :rose:

Well, the new pcb mounting thing seems to work.
All I have to do not is to persuade the electronics bit to do it right!
And it rained last night.

Ugh the pre-Spring Break we need to get lots of homework assignments and testing done before you're gone for a week rush..

:rose: PennLady.

Thanks, Naoko.

LOL We went out a week or so ago after all of our snow, and poor Mr Penn had been cooped more than the rest of us since he works at home. It seems when he has cabin fever, and then gets out, he buys movies. We must have added twenty or so DVDs/Blu-rays to our collection. I am not complaining, mind you, just observing.

Hope you treated yourself to lots of frivolous stuff!

My kids don't really get a spring break, I guess since it's elementary school. They get a 5-day weekend over Easter, which has now been shortened to four days because of all the snow days they had.
