My boss is a structural engineer. He used to work with an architect that we shall call Aldrin Cooper, for the sake of this discussion. Bill worked under the title "Aldrin Cooper Associates: Architects/Illustrators" when he worked with another architect that did hand-drawn renderings of their designs. That was probably around 30 years ago. Aldrin hasn't been in this office himself in close to 10 years, and we haven't done any work with him in 12.

So why is all that setup important? Because the phone company refuses to change the name on the phone line.

Today I get a call from a woman asking for Aldrin. I say he hasn't worked out of this office for a long time. She asks if we do the same work. I describe our operation, and she gets hung up on certain words being used. She doesn't understand what I mean when I say "We design residential projects from small house additions, to full houses. We also do store design store remodels and new commercial buildings."

"When you say full houses, what do you mean? Do you mean like the show full house?"

She starts asking if we do computer animated design, asking if we do video editing, and a few other misconceptions about the terms that are used in my industry as well as others, saying something about doing video work for the Grammys a few years ago... When I try to explain her misconceptions I hear button presses on her phone, assume it is a crank call, and hang up.

She calls back, not getting that we are not the company she is looking for, and that we aren't who she was trying to call in the first place. So I explained in no uncertain terms, "I am sorry, but we do not perform the services you are looking for."

"but you work in the industry?, Could you recommend someone else to call? Someone that could help me?"

"I'm sorry but I don't know who you would need to contact, I just know that we are not the company you are looking for."

She sounded insulted that I don't know any architectural firms that do animations and video productions of their work.

Crazy people do not help my day go any faster...

probably shouldn't have taken that nap... I don't think I am goingto be able to sleep tonight.

I really don't want to be alone on my birthday for another year in a row, but that is the way things appear to be heading :(

I need to record a new episode of Kick The Sun. The one clip has over 11,000 views! I need a cowriter to help make it more entertaining and informative though...

Just so you know....I go weak in the knees when you whisper those sweet nothings to me in Spanish.

On the 17th of this month I become a certified (through our federation) karate instructor. :)

Congratulations, Cloudy. Well done :nana: (need more nanas around here :D )

It's a little hard for me to believe yet, to be honest. It wasn't all that long ago that I started training.

It was my instructor's idea...she said that the kids all come to me for help, over and over again, that I may have some talent in that area. I start with beginners only (thank goodness!), but I'm really looking forward to it.

In the process of getting ready for it, I was also chosen for our dojo's demo team. :)

Well done, Cloudy!

The transition from student to instructor is one of the attributes of a Zen Master.

Thank you, Og.

Little did I know a couple of years ago that "doing something with my son" would turn into something approaching a life-changing decision - much for the better, too. :)

Also, you learn more by teaching. I'm not an official instructor, but I have learned quite a bit by showing things to other people, and every once in a while I have people that have been at our school twice as long as I have, and are already black belts when I am not, asking me questions. I love it so much :D

What is it about mates that, even given a weeks warning about an appointment with a fishing pool, some fool says "can you fit my cooker please?" ('no - I told you that I'm not available on Sunday morning' !)

Doh. . . .

I'm sorry, but it's obnoxious to include flat sheets that cost more than $200 on your wedding registry.

Don't even get me started on the hand towels.

Stupid comfort food isn't helping in the battle against my weight. All it's good for is being chocolaty, and creamy, and delicious...
