The thing is, when a pit bull, or a rottweiler, or a mastiff goes bad, they're beyond dangerous, since they are bred by humans to have massively powerful jaws, and tenacity in the fighting ring. We made them that way.
To be honest, not everyone can own a dog like that. They will take over and rule the house if you let them, but if you're enough of an Alpha to take the lead, then you really couldn't ask for a better pet, OR a better protector.
According to testing done on jaw psi, it's a myth that the pit bull's jaws or stronger. They also dispute the myth of a locking jaw.

I'll be pushing 40 when I leave. I'd better have at least 3 sets of letters after my name.

Now that I'm retired, I'll start on the third set with a fourth on the horizon. Add the military rank in it and I'll look like wizard from Unseen University!![]()
HaWhat will you be a doctor of?
My last set of letters will be professional credentials. Not planning on going for the doctorate. I'll be too damn old.
The possibility of a doctorate exists but I'd rather have a working terminal. My nearest college offers an MFA in woodworking. I really want that one. Can you see the sig block?
Voluptuary Manque, MFA (Long Beach), MA, BA, AA, MSG (ret.), Master Gardener, and a couple of et ceteras! ROFLMAO
That is quite a sig!
Hopefully mine will someday be BS, MS, RD, CDE. Notice all those "S"s for a writer...

My instructor let me start training with my tonfas tonight!
I'm not supposed to start training with them for another three belts but she told me I was ready. I love them! Much better than chuks.
I'd love to try out tonfas, but our school doesn't have any
I almost passed out from the heat during class last night. I had to grab onto a column to keep from falling over. I was about to keep going when someone told me to stop and sit down. I get so stubborn sometimes, I would have gone until I did fall over probably.
Most instructors/schools welcome students from other disciplines...you ought to see if there's an Okinawan karate dojo near you. Most will let you take at least two classes free, just to sort of test drive the instructor/atmosphere. Ours does that quite a bit.
In karate, they also let you keep your belt, no matter which martial art you earned it in. For instance, my older son got his black in tai kwon do back...probably about ten years ago - he was 11, I think, when he got it. Every time he comes home from college for a visit he goes to classes with us (he wants to become competent in several disciplines, and tkd doesn't use weapons), and Shihan welcomes him with open arms, and he lines up with the other black belts.
You might find that you like it as much as I do.
oh...I have blisters on both hands...right there in the webbing between my forefingers and thumbs.![]()

And I though Ton Fa was what every young Klingon suffered some time.

I wish I could turn off my mind for just a little while.

If you figure out how to do that, let me know.![]()

I'll write a "how to" book!!![]()
Nope, they're very simple weapons that look plainly harmless - just a couple of thick sticks, really, with handles....but used correctly, they're deadly. I banged the hell out of my wrists enough last night to get a taste of what they can do.![]()
I prefer sai, myself. I still have a pair. I wish I had enough room to practice with them.
