I'm not sure about the temporary certificate. I have already taught two years, but what I had expired. I haven't seen anything on the state education website about being able to teach before having the license renewed. For the kind of license I have, it takes 45 points to renew it. 1 semester hour is worth 15 points. Once I get it renewed, I believe I only have to teach one more year before getting bumped up to the next license grouping. That license is good for 10 years.
I just have a Bachelor's degree.
I would be on the phone with the state education website. Find yourself someone who knows exactly what you need to get recertified and get every detail.
It's such a hassle, I know, but it sounds as if it could be the quickest way out of your current situation.
You have some experience, supplies, you know what you are doing. It won't be as rough as your first year probably was.
And temporary certificates are easy to acquire, at least in Kansas.
