"I know you won't allow yourself to believe it," she said, her words muffled by his shirt as he held her closely to him, "but I can sense you. I can't explain it, but I can."

He grunted low in his chest, a sound that was a mixture of laughter and incredulity. "You're right, I don't believe in paranormal stuff --the scientist in me won't allow it. And yet ..." he drew a shaky breath, "And yet, you've done things that baffle me."

She smiled, warmed not only by his body but his words. "It will always be this way," she said.

He squeezed her tightly and rested his cheek on the top of her head. "I know," he said. And then, after a moment's pause, "It comforts me."

I hope this is sumthin you're workin on. I'm intrigued.
