Locally cyclists and motorists seem to think that traffic laws are for everyone else. I use a four wheeled walker and am very slow, yet in our pedestrian only area I am constantly having to avoid cyclists who are banned.
On the roads, one way streets only apply to other people, so I have to look both ways before crossing slowly. A Red stop sign seems to be advisory only so even on a light-controlled pedestrian crossing I might have to move as fast as I can to avoid being run down by a cyclist or car.
Our pedestrians are nearly as bad. They step out from between parked cars without looking, expecting vehicles to give way.
I suggest that you do not try to get out of their way. In the event of a collision, the resulting kerfuffle might persuade the authorities to enforce the cyclist's rule !
The pedestrians on our local market can be more than slightly daft, and if you get too close, they seem to think it's your fault. And as for keeping their little dogs out of the way, they're too busy nattering.
My latest story is now posted:

But so far I have been surprised. It has been favorited several times even if only as a bookmark because it is three Lit pages long, and the voting has been reasonable.
Our pavement buggy drivers can be lethal. There are two types of pavement buggies: one for use on pavements with a speed restriction of 4 mph; the other for use on roads only with a speed of eight miles an hour. But those with the eight mph buggies try to use them in pedestrian areas and in supermarket aisles, causing chaos.

That's a healthier report than last time, when you had bodies in the wall. Did you get a visit from the girls?I managed to write about 3,000 words this weekend. I know that's barely a drop in the bucket for a lot of you, but I've been in a dry spell since May. It was so refreshing to have a story flowing out of my fingers, trickling across the key board, and filling the screen. I hope this wasn't just an isolated cloud burst, and that the drought is finally over.
I have a number of original copies of the official French newspaper of the 1790s. I am trying to find a suitable home for them while I am still alive.
So far my local university and two French institutions in the UK have turned them down for lack of suitable storage. Yet they have been sitting in a box on top of my wardrobe since 1989 when they were on display at an event for the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution.
