Is this a form of bigotry?

A gay rights group in Ohio had a parade and told a gay gun owners group that they weren't welcome if they brought legal firearms. The gun owners make a very good argument for bigotry and discrimination. See link for full story.

How absurd, does the term double standard apply here? Some folks never cease to amaze me with their stupidity.

Well, yeah, it's double standards.

But the important question is: What the blazes is a gay gun owner's group? What's their purpose? Do they do...gay things with their guns?

I'm not too sure if it's wrong -

They aren't saying - Don't have guns.

They are just saying - Don't bring them to the parade.

As tempers can flare around these things I imagine they are attempting to keep people safe?

Or not.

I was wondering if there was a difference too? Why oh why must everything and everyone be catagorized and labled?

One thing I noticed is that the Stonewall Columbus went way over their bounds in this from a legal point of view.

They threatened to confiscate and keep all guns from anyone that showed up. That's illegal as hell. If a person has a carry permit, no one may confiscate a gun from them if they haven't comitted a crime. The only thing that can be done is to ask a person to leave a privately owned establishment if they're legally carrying a gun. If they refuse to leave then the cops can be called and the person charged with trespassing. Only when the cop arrests the person for trespassing, may he then take the gun because a crime has been comitted with the trespassing charge.

Licensed carriers are allowed to carry guns at public place unless specified by law. Such places usually include courthouses, airports, etc. If they were having a parade, I'm pretty sure it was a public place, therefore they didn't have the right or authority to threaten confiscation.

You're right on that one Wild, most people I know, hubby included has a permit to carry a concealed weapon. It showed a lack of unity as far as I'm concerned if the message was to parade as a unit, all should have been granted the right to show.

Forget for a moment the question of whether it's irresponsible to introduce weapons into an event that tends to attract controversy and more than a few homophobes looking for a fight.

Suppose you held a parade on behalf of gun owners, went to the trouble of obtaining the permit and organizing the event. Then some sub-groups of gun owners with agendas of their own wanted to use your parade to publicize Gun Owners Against Pornography, or Gun Owners for Nader. If you give them the nod, what will you say to Gun Owning Neo Nazis or Guns For Pediphiles? Isn't your first responsibility as the organizer of the parade to stay "on message" as they say in marketing?

Yea, I have a concealed carry permit and the idea is that no one knows you have it untill you need to defend your life.
If the homophobes came to confront armed gays they would probably do so armed.
The parade organizers not only needed to stay on message, they also have to work with the police in organizing the event to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Fistfights the cops can stop, gunfights in a crowd is lunacy.

Most definitely those are double standards. I'm a male nurse. I work with alot of gay nurses. I'm straight but their preference is different. We do hunt together. Any group, hunters or otherwise, who state things one way for themselves and deny the other population those benefits are discrimatory.

It's discriminatory to insist on a weapons-free parade? What else should parade participants be allowed to bring? Their cars? How about machetes?

LMAO!

Just no clowns, man.

I can't do clowns!

Hmmmm I wonder if the gay gun owners are perhaps communists too? (Obscure SNL reference) :D

The clowns would win. They've got the bright red fire extinguishers. :D

The GCWG have applied for a parade permit in downtown Miami next week. (Gay Clowns With Guns.) I hope this doesn't lead to rioting.

It will be fine unless they try to have sex.

:)

P.S. Oh! But on the up side, parking certainly won't be a problem!

Since they all arrive in one car . . .

Parking isn't a concern. But have you seen what happens to pedestrian traffic when just one or two people wear those enormous floppy shoes?
