Out of all the younger women I have talked to I think there has been only one women I can think of off the top of my head who I would describe as homophobic of lesbainism.

It seems more prevalent in men then women...For example I have never heard of a straight women beating up a lesbian for her sexual orientation before and with the hip to be gay fad most of them not only don't even make fun of gay women but try to mimic and act like them to get men's attention.

Is there really much homophobia in the het. female community or is it more of a male thing?

but try to mimic and act like them to get men's attention.

I would agree with this. I hate it when straight girls make out on the dance floor and all the men start hooting and hollering. They look more like tramps, hookers, and strippers...then lesbians.

Then I tend to pull back from my Girl, not wanting the same attention.

I believe there is just as much homophobia with straight chicks as guys. It just tends to be more subtle in the way it is "expressed."

Its pretty obvious, the attention desperate straight chicks solicite to get us guy's attention at clubs. I mean, we can TELL that they are not really lesbians usually because although they may kiss, findle, or grind with one another it looks obvious, a blatant gesture of "hey, look at me", and it dosen't help much that they are usually giggling like little school girls when they do it.

However, because of our very nature that fact dose not prevent us dudes from apprechiating it or stop us from rubber-necking even though we no its as fake as hell.

What REALLY gives lesbians a bad name to straight men are the stuck-up, fickle, gold-digger types at clubs-striahgt chicks that when you hit on them if you don't look like Brad Pitt or are not wearing enough Bling-bling they blow you off in a snooty way by telling you they are gay or having thier wing-girl grab her away and say they are girlfriends. Bullshit, just fucking say that you're sorry but you are out to have fun with your friend tonight and not looking to hook-up with a man right now or something polite like that rather then getting less intelligent men angry at gay women for being snubbed and rejected by some ho with an attitude who claims she's a lesbian.

Do you really think that being a lesbian means you can't be a "hooker or stripper?" Or be ultrafemme with ultrafemme?

I don't police the world with a pussy breathalyzer, personally. Tacky bitch is tacky bitch is tacky bitch, and lesbians can be tacky bitches too.

I agree tacky is tacky.

I dated a stripper, who was a lesbian, who made out with other strippers for LOTS more tips.

The office I work from has one woman who is a lesbian. She has a long time partner and does not advertise her sexuality.
She invited everyone to her birthday in a local pub. 2 of us turned up.
At the office I was curious as to why others had not attended, it was a great night. The answers were:

1.My husband said its a gay pub and did not want me to go.

2.We had made other plans.

3.I did not want people to think I was gay.

4.It would be embarrassing for her if her workmates saw her kissing her girlfriend.

Most of the women in the office are 45+, but certainly in this small part of East Anglia UK homophobia seems alive and well.

Actually its been a huge benefit for her and I because we use their attitude to say outrageous things.
For example when the business staff were old they had to say 'yes' more often when people asked them to do things, I asked her for a shag :p
Not that shocking but it caused gossip for weeks lol :d

And no she didn't say 'Yes'

These lesbian "wannabees" would stop their shenanigans if the guys would stop acting like hungry wolves whenever they see two chicks kissing or whatever. When I was floating down the Guadilupe river a few weeks ago, I was taken away by a strong current. I ended up floating with a group of college kids and probably freshman! Long story short, there were some girls on the bank kissing and carrying on. The guys were hoopin' and hollerin' !( Texas slang)---------------------- Stop feeding the frenzy and they'll get bored and these lesbian posers will get bored.--------------------One last thing, I remember the whole fake lesbian thing being really popular back in 1992 when I lived in the Greenville Avenue area of Dallas. I'm still surprised that this trend is still going strong with some. To me, it is soooooo yesterday! The fake fem 2 fems need new material because everyone is getting tired of it. Sorry, long day.

Sure, if they're fundamentalist church women.

You can add non-fundamentalist church and non-church women to that as well. It's hardly limited to bible thumpers. You can trust me on that one.

I've encountered homophobia in women, too. Prejudice against homosexuality in general, not just lesbianism.

I would agree that it happens, as a majority women are less aggressive, so no, you won't see or hear of straight women beating up a lesbian. As Pookie said, it would be expressed differently, example: the co-workers not showing up for the birthday party.

I can say that I have encountered (in my ex) as Stuponfucious said, prejudice against homosexuality in general. One of the reasons I never told her I was Bi.

My sister is definitely one of those who are homophobic in general. The way she expresses it is more subtle, by her words or a look of disgust. I don't think she would ever say anything to a persons face, but I have had the displeasure of hearing how she really feels. It makes me sad that she could be so closeminded.

I know a straight homophobic women.
She is a beautiful gothic type woman, who also used to be a stripper. That seemed a little strange to me since from what I heard and have seen most strippers are VERY liberal about such social issues as sexual orientation and are themselves usually lesbian or bisexual in nature.

She is MUCH more homophobic of gay men then of gay women from what I have read and heard. I have inquired about it from her before to try to understand it and she admitted as much.
Most women are strange. lol

of course women are homophobic. the reason homophobic women don't generally beat up lesbians is because women just generally don't resort to physical violence. they're better at emotional violence.

again, generally speaking.

of course all this has been said already, but come on. logic, man. LOGIC.

I have a niece-in-law who is very homophobic. At the same time, she kids back and forth with me about being girlfriends and leaving the guys behind and running off together. Go figure ;) .

My wife just recently lost a good friend of hers when she found out about her interest in group/ bi sex. Her "friend" told her she couldn't be friends with someone who was into that "freaky shit". I'd call that homophobic.

This is exactly what I was going to say. We women don't beat the shit out people physically. We do just fine alienating, humiliating, and destroying each other's egos.

Additionally, while lots of women are playing with each other now with all that kissing and petting, it doesn't mean that they wouldn't be terrified of actually being hit on by a woman. Terrified and quite possibly offended.

I, too, have a lost of number of friends when it was discovered that I'm bisexual. I almost lost my job recently when I was in a brief relationship with a young woman who was in our professional circle. As soon as the young woman broke my heart into a million little tiny peices (and the proceeded to jump up and down on them with her cleats on...) I was OK with my employer again. And she tried to set me up with a straight man... Blows my mind.
