I have an idea for a story in which a scientist invents something that has the same effect on women that viagra has on men. Or is there really a female viagra in real life?

No there is not. Many (many!) years ago there was a school of thought that Viagra (sildenafil) might have a similar effect on the female genitalia. However, the drug action is to dilate vessels in the helicene arteries which are specific to the penis, and apparently female physiology doesn't have an exact equivalent. My secondhand (obviously!) experience with a woman trying Viagra was complaints of "an annoying itch" and that was about it.

That said, Viagra (or Cialis, or Levitra) doesn't make a guy get a hard by itself, he has to be stimulated enough to be expecting intercourse. The drug merely addresses problems with the blood supply that would be, say, resulting from atherosclerosis or diabetes. IOW, it's not a button you push to get a hard if you're not in the mood. Ya' gotta be in the mood.

Now there is a medication for women, Osphena (ospemifene), that taken therapeutically (not on an "as needed" basis) restores some natural vaginal function in post-menopausal women without the very heavy burden of hormone replacement therapy. HRT has been implicated in breast and uterine cancers. Anyway, Osphena does help in making intercourse, well, less painful for older women since the vaginal tissue tends to dry out when hormone levels drop. But it doesn't make them want to have sex. You do, in fact, have to do the dishes. Or laundry.

I'm sort of guessing you're asking about an aphrodisiac developed under modern technology, instead of folk "remedies" with zero basis in reality. No such thing for either men or women. If you want to write a story about such a miracle cure, then have fun with it!

The better than equivalent for women to increase their libido is hormone treatments!

Health spas in the U.S. offer doctor consultations (after blood work) to advise on the best balance between estrogen and testosterone for women (and men) to increase their daily energy, help them sleep better, and increase sex drive. They make a small incision (quarter inch) in the butt and insert slow-release hormone pellets under the skin, the mix of pellets based on the doctor's advice and desired results. For women, the treatment is every three months, and for men every six months.

My wife has been on these treatments for over two years, and her sex drive noticeably increases after the first week and plateaus at a high level for about eight to nine more weeks. Then as the pellets wear off, she noticeably becomes tired easily and loses interest in sex. And by increased sex drive, she can go for it almost EVERY night! (Her toys get a workout when I'm tired.)

I tried the testosterone pellets once. The blood test showed I was already at an average testosterone level for a 30-year-old male (600 n), but the doctor asked if I wanted to try them. I found they made me edgy and easily angered over the subsequent three to four months. So, I never went back for any following treatments after that.

The only downside to women taking them is those hormones are not recommended for women at high risk of breast cancer. But my wife says it's her decision for improved quality of life. And I don't NEED to do the dishes to get her excited! If I go to bed early, I'll find her toys out the next morning!
