According to La Senza it is! I bought some underwear in there the other day and asked the sales assistant what size (S/M or L) I would need and she said size 14 is a large. I don't consider myself 'large' so why is it clothes manufacturers label size 14 clothes as a large. Am I just kidding myself, If I were one size larger would I be too 'fat' for fashion? Now I'm feeling really self conscious cos I wear large knickers - no wonder so many people have eating disorders!! Why not just label clothes with their proper sizes instead of making people feel totally crap cos they've had to buy a LARGE!!

So what do others think - do you think the labelling is correct, am I over reacting? Why do you suppose a company that manufacturers bra's upto a 38F only provides the matching knickers upto a size 14?

Sorry I'm just feeling a bit pee'd off about peoples attitudes towards those who aren't a perfect size 8/10. As if I don't feel fat enough most days without having it labelled in my fucking underpants.

Oh I'm talking about UK size 14 so for those of you in the states I believe thats a size 10.

Really interested to hear others opinions on this one, maybe I'm on my own here lol.

I'll give you my two cents worth on this <probably all its worth but what the hell?> I don't consider that to be large but I also don't consider large to be bad. I prefer a full figure. I'm tired of the anorexic looking, stick figure, skeleton looking, magazine posing, arrogant attitudes of what the media and advertisers try to tell us is the "ideal build". I think it is setting ridiculous examples for kids to try to emulate and is bad for many people's self esteem. A woman's body is a work of art. It doesn't have to fit in a single category. The most attractive thing about any person is their attitude anyway. I've met beautiful women that I couldn't stand being around because of the shallow, narrowminded attitudes.......very very unattractive. Anyway.....I don't know if I answered your questions or that my opinion matters but its the way I feel. Great topic by the way. Thanks.

Thanks twomuchfun. I agree with you, I don't find stick insects attractive either and so often their attitude that it must be the worst thing in the world to be anything more than a size 8 stinks. I don't think there is anything wrong in being a 'large' I just don't think a size 14 is and I think manufacturers need to wake upto the fact that people who are larger than a 14 might want to buy their underwear too

I'm on my soapbox now lol

No hun, size 14 is not large!! When I finally get my head straight and can get to dieting again I am aiming for a 14 as a lovely, curvy size.

I hate La Senza's sizing too, I am an extra large (if I can even get in them). They also do not seem to have a standard sizing policy as some are S/M/L and other 10,12,14 etc. I am a BBW so being "labelled" large no longer bothers me but their sizing is just wrong!

I also agree with you about the "lopsided" sizing. As a pear shape I have problems finding nice knickers to go with the pretty bras. It also makes it difficult for me buying clothes in general.

No, a size 10/14 is not large. I have no idea what is wrong with the way bodies are measured but it is crazy. It would do nothing to remove tags like small, medium, large and just go to a strict number system based on diameter.

I have to wonder if people that make cloths even understand how people are built and only think that runway models make thier sales base.

I remember 11 years ago when the movie Titanic came out......there was a magazine article that claimed James Cameron didn't want to cast Kate Winslett because of her weight.....they were referring to her as Kate "WeighsAlot" jokingly......I couldn't believe it. Kate Winslett is absolutely beautiful and to have a concern about her size was just unbelievable.....I think things have only gotten worse since that time. <which was around 1996 or so I think> :(

*Feels lots of love for ToMuchFun* We need more men like you

well im biased as a larger woman on sizing. good example is bridal gowns. you walk into a shop they ask you your dress size and then they hand you a dress two number sizes up and the bad part is it either just fits with a little room to breathe, or its right on. now the good thing is it happens to every size in this instance, because my best friend is a size 8 and she had to get a size 12 dress taken in.
in american, in a size 20, but some clothes are made smaller, and sometimes im in a 22. i worked in a plus size clothing store for a long time and heard lots of frustrations for girls bigger than me trying to find clothes that were stylish and chic then they found our store (its the leading womens clothing store) and were happy to see clothes that were modern, as well and lingerie, bras and matching panty sets (including thongs and g strings). manufacturers outsource thier production, so why cant they just send one sizing standard out to every country for the shops? try being an american size 26, those girls are large and have a hard time finding clothes to fit right.

Well well well... what can I say... I live in Europe where fashion lives lol... I am a size 18 and let me tell you a little story.. a couple of years ago I went to a market on the day of my birthday ... I bought myself 3 satin pjs and i as so happy about them.... i made sure they would fit me hence why i got XXXL.... well guess what girl... they didn´t fit... how´s that for a party killer.... I have always been big and now i don´t care.. sure i´d like to loose a couple more pounds but I KNOW that men like me for what i am and for who I am..... just learn to love yourself and if you are really down then try slimming down a few pounds... do it for yourself and don´t bother with labels cause it´s a real killer.... Enjoy life and what it brings you :)

I think size is just a number, truly. I think men AND women are such beautiful creatures... Honestly, to me....if you take care of yourself (hygiene, etc) and take pride in what you...NO MATTER THE SIZE...then you're a beautiful person.

I think society puts WAY too much emphasis on size, HOWEVER, I think "society" has calmed down in the last 10 years....wouldn't you say? I remember laying on my bed as a teen STUFFING myself into a smaller size pair of jeans.....horrible. I think teenage girls today don't feel quite so pressured.

Just my .02. XO

Clothes, and sizing used to piss me off more than it does now. I make clothes for a living, and I've seen it from the other side, too. There's no fitting every body type with every style. When people shop my art fair booth, I tell them not to worry about what the tag says. If they are bothered by the number on the tag, cut it out. Also, nobody is going to peep down the back of your shirt to see what size you're wearing, but if it's too small, everyone will know.

That being said, not everything is available in the next size up. I usually just move on, and keep looking for clothes that do fit right. Email feedback sometimes helps, too.

FWIW, I wear a US size 26. Check the 3X ass in the pic link, below. ;)

lol with the sizable hood and boot (or booty) that i lug around with me....sometimes i think the only thing that'll fit me is a king size sheet with a hole cut into it ... and a big hole at that to fit around my blink and you'll miss it, neck.
...but bedding is even more expensive than couture these days.

*giggles and spins looking into the mirror*

and thank god hipsters are in, cos every pair of jeans i put on are a , "hello, good morning! buttcrack" spectacle ;)

so... i 've learned to love my accessories :rose:

Go scarves, Go belts, Go bags and...hallelujah if there ever was question that there was a God...shoes are the clincher... nothing but a supreme being could have had such forethough as to give us feet...so that we could wear gold strappy stilettos. :)

Oh and... i've just decided... the whole making clothes too small for the majority of u to wear is...just a government initiative to encourage us to all go naked

...and never let it be said that I don't do my part to support my government.

:nana: :nana: :p

Its only a label.Over here in our country they do label sizes as S/M/L and XL..geez...the large here means only size 10-12 and XL is size 14.When it comes to dress and top shirt have to take large..cheese and rice and I am actually only 52 kls.:D

Mind ya,my sons have to tease me always saying, mom don't even think of fitting size medium, just take large that's your size.

Size does not matter

Why women worry about their sizes is beyond me . . .

I like women for themselves . . not whether or not they are small medium or big.

Just my two cents!

I thought 14 was the average size in the UK at the moment.... but what everyone says... it's the person who counts. :)

And you are really nice.

And my 2 cents.... I'd prefer someone to be slightly overweight than stick-thin. If forced to choose.

I am a BBW ~ and I love it!

My body was made for seduction and sex.

I am soft, warm, plump, and sweet.

I learned a long time ago that so long as I'm confident and take care of myself, men respond in the positive.

So, really, who gives a fig what "society" or the "fashion" industry says? To hell with them. I'm happy ~ my husband is happy ~ and I even get checked out occasionally. ;)

Be happy with you ~ and so will everyone else.

:rose:

If size 14 is to large than why isn't there any of that size left on the rack when I'm trying to buy it? I cut all the tags out of all my clothing. Every brand has different sizing, one brand slacks I have to buy a 14 the next brand I can get by with a 12.

It don't matter what size any person wears it's what is inside that matters.

Size 14 - large??? Ummmm YEAH - if you're talking about cocks. ;) But if you are talking about women - ummmm NOPE.

I used to worry about men not liking me because I wasn't 36, 24, 36 until I found men who don't give two hoots about size. My sense of humor and my natural "HUMBLE" charm are what wins them over and then I take my 40C bra off and watch them cream in their pants.

Hell, I got more skin on the back of my hand than some of these small chested chicks. AND fuck this notion that any more than a mouthful is a waste......ummmm I've seen most guys woof down a Big Mac - so don't tell me they can't get my boobies in their mouth. HEY - if I can deep throat your damn cock you sure as hell can suck on my boob......besides I don't want the whole thing swallowed just run your cock up between my breasts and pinch my tits and I'm a happy camper. :nana:

WOW - that soap box was high. *stepping down to go sit in the corner*

Actually I think a 16 is the national average!! I hate the way the fashion industry operates - putting dangerously boney thin models on the catwalk is damn irresponsible. There is a different between people who are naturally slim or curvy and those who have forced themselves to be a certain weight and I think it shows and is unattractive. I would much rather see a variety of people of all HEALTHY shapes and sizes showing off designers clothes but the designers seem to think they only look good on anorexic looking skeletons.

You're right - it is the person who counts and I'm pleased you think I'm a nice girl. I actually (except for a few hangups) like my shape and would never aspire to be a size 8 :)

I think you're beautiful the way you are. To me, you're a real woman, and I love that.{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}} (I know you don't know me, but if you did, you would know I'm a hugger and a kisser)
