It sure looks like it right now. The opposition seems to be in control of the government buildings, mostly unopposed. The media is in the hands of the opposition. Nobody knows where Milosevic is. Have the people spoken? It sure looks like it. CNN is covering the situation. Fascinating.

April, I sure hope he is going down....

:p

Hint to Luscious: It's big news, sweetie. Turn on CNN, flip to the international pages of your local newspaper. You can't miss it.

It does sounds like a victory for democracy.
Milosevic is losing control. The police and the media (usually an arm of the government) seem to be supporting the opposition. They say members of the police were even ditching their uniforms and joining the protestors.
Very good news.

I don't think he's the kinda guy that cares about his partners
enough to go down on them....could be wrong tho:)

Hi April,

I think that this such an interesting topic. As most people here know, I do a fair amount of war crimes work and Milosevic makes for an extremely interesting case study. I think that he knows that he can not easily give up power - but not because it is the power that he craves but rather because if he gives it up then he exposes himself to criminal prosecution (as Siren said) on the grounds of crimes against humanity.

The Pinochet case teaches us one thing - that only Heads of State enjoy sovereign immunity (that means that no leader can get his ass hauled into Court). But former Heads of State lose their immunity when they lose their leasdership. And so, while Milosevic remains in power he can not be touched - but the moment he loses power the he can be arrested and tried for the various crimes that he has committed against humanity.

That is the negative consequence of the Pinochet judgement, in my opinion.

Yes. He's going to get flushed out like the turd he is.
Rumours says that he is hiding out in his bunker. That's at least what they said on the morning news here.

Another point is. He can't leave serbia because he's a wanted war criminal. And it looks like he will either get killed or he will commit suicide, before captured.
There is after all a long line of suicides in his family. father, mother, brother and uncle has all ended their own lives.

Not a great loss if you ask me.

MMMMMM Xander.....

:p

Thank god......but

It looks like that puke is finally going down. Thankfully, and none too soon.

I would caution you, his demise will not be some sort of panacea for the Balkans. In fact it could bring about more instability which invariably leads to conflict in that beautiful and tragic part of the world.

As someone who has spent more time than I care to remember in that area, I feel gratified at his passing. I will reserve judgement on how bright it makes the future. More than a millenia of hatred is not easily set aside, and believe me the hatred runs very, very deep.

Please understand, I pray for the deliverance of that part of the world, in to happier, better and more peaceful times. It's just that I have had my hopes dashed and my heart broken, too many times, by events that have boded well and quickly gone to shit there.

Kostunica has been declared president-elect by several agencies. The question is, who will be acting president? Milosevic? His term ends in June, but I really don't think anybody will allow him to finish out his term. So then, Kostunica? Probably, but we'll see.

Now the work begins for Yugoslavia. To establish a democratic government and use the police and army in a positive way instead of oppressing the people like before. There is hope for this country, but we will all have to wait and watch, because nothing is certain there.
