Is Latino heritage month Latino supremacism?

They are having a series of "Latino awareness events" at my workplace. They hope to promote so-called "diversity" by raising awareness of Latino culture.

Its freaking Southern California, who the fuck isn't aware of Latino culture???

You know, on the subject of these heritage months, I actually quite like what my town did with NAIDOC week, which is basically Aboriginal heritage week.

Originally, I was in high school when NAIDOC week started. The first time it happened, it was literally a week of the students sitting in the town hall, watching documentaries on the history of how white people oppressed the aborigines and listening to the towns aborigine elder tell us how white people are responsible for every problem that the aborigines have. The second year they held it it was the same. I'm not trying to make the elder look bad, either, that was actually what happened.

Understandably, no one liked the week, not even the actual aborigine students at the school. After that, the event didn't happen for two years because the elder got promoted to a position in the local council.

The last year I was at school, we got a new elder, who was actually a guy I knew and was friends with. Instead of giving a week long history lesson, the new elder taught us about the aborigine culture and their beliefs. We spent the week making traditional weapons, learning about bush food, traditional music and dances and we even had a huge party in front of a bonfire on Friday afternoon.

So in short, heritage weeks are great as long as they actually celebrate and teach the groups culture and history.

We attend many cultural heritage festivals. Mostly we find people dressed funny, selling stuff. Sometimes we buy stuff, eat stuff, listen to all the stuff. We don't hear, "We're the supreme oppressed ethnic-cultural group in USA! All you whiteys can besame ano!"

White supremacists believe melanin lowers IQ. Maybe black and brown supremacists believe melanin raises IQ. These are testable assertions. Attendance at or avoidance of tanning salons should have measurable effects. Can we get a research grant?

It's been studied exhaustively. No one liked any of the results. No one talks about IQ collectively, anymore.

Reminds me of those dumbass DNA testing commercials...

I thought I was German! Now I'm wearing a kilt!

I found out I was 23% Kenyan! Now I'm proudly wearing a funny hat!

We feel so fulfilled now that we can finally identify as a member of a tribe, thanks to Science...
