Is it true that having graduated from an ivy-league university will give you a HUGE advantage over everyone else who didn't if you're applying for a job or when getting promotions?
Good luck getting a job in finance on wall-street without having the pedigree of an ivy-league school. Most of them require MBA's from the top business schools in the entire world + internships or work experience.
Better colleges mean better jobs, this is why some Harvard grads are household names in their fields. Those who went to a state college might find it extremely difficult just to get an entry-level position at any place they can find.
More than half of the CEO's of all the fortune 500 companies went to ivy-league and elite private colleges. This is basic social Darwinism. In order to reach the very top of society, you must do exceptional things and have an education which makes you stand out from the crowd. This requires intelligence, skill, and aptitude which most people do not have.
