Promotion of such books by the author's staff isn't unusual, and I see no likelihood that most colleges and libraries would have to be harassed to buy any book coming out under her name.

I don't agree. They write the books to play on their name but the books set forth their views, which are good for the public to know. Publishing books like this is bread and butter across all dimensions of society. I don't see any ethical problem with it at all. People don't have to buy the books. Colleges and libraries most certainly will stock them as a public service.
