Article III of the Constitution sets the lifetime appointment of certain judges.

The method for changing it is the same method for amending the Constitution. The legislature does have the power to change it, but the bar to amending the Constitution is set in the Constitution.

Yeah, invoking 4-year-olds isn’t the way I would have gone. Frankly, there is a lot of reasoning that almost everyone share’s with them. You could quite accurately say that thinking, “I’m hungry; I want some food” is “the mentality of a 4-year-old;” but it’s also the mentality of a 50-year-old or 80-year-old. Much better to simply say what is wrong with a particular line of thinking than to try to make an insulting analogy. But you work with what you got, you know?
