Is it time for the U.S. to withdraw from the Middle East?

The vast majority of the people in middle eastern countries are still dirt poor and their leaders wanted to keep them poor and uneducated.

Those same leaders always had an external enemy (most often Israel or the US) to focus people's anger towards instead of toward the rulers who were actually oppressing them.

They have still have terrible education systems, little freedom of the press and radical Islamists to contend with in many of those countries.

So, they might not realize it, but they are fighting for their piece of the pie and their political leaders just like our power brokers are feeding them bullshit as a distraction from their own greed.

Apparently you failed middle-east history, or never studied the subject.
Actually, I was being sarcastic.

Mubarak was Sadat's vice president. When Sadat was assassinated, Mubarak moved into the number 1 position with the backing of the US, in exchange for US backing, Mubarak promised to keep the peace treaty and recognize Israel as sovereign state.
And that amounts to forcing Mubarak upon the Egyptian people? That's a cretinously convoluted piece of logic.

The Egyptian people were once governed by king Farouk. He was overthrown by an army coup not backed by the US in any way, which established the regime of Nasser-Sadat-Mubarak that was anti-American until it attacked Israel twice, was soundly beaten twice and became pro-American after having exhausted all other alternatives. At no point did anyone force that regime unto the Egyptian people.

"People" attacking an embassy on the anniversary of 9/11 on a ridiculous excuse doesn't strike you as suspicious? We don't do what they want us to do. They're crazy.

They weren't the actions of a country.

No amount of war is going to ensure that everybody likes us and is nice all the time.

I'm anti war, so I'm not sure what you're suggesting. I do believe any country in the Middle East can control their people or break up any mob activity if they choose to. How many more embassies have been raided today?

Also, I havent been home or watched the news, but did Obama say anything today that shows a hint of leadership?

Dude you talk too much sense.....the GB is going to hate you for that

I'm not anti war. War is a fact of life and there are times when you need to defend yourself. I'm pro defense.

I did see that Obama correctly condemned the attacks and is seeking justice and capture of the individuals that did this, without incorrectly condemning an entire culture or nation for the acts of a few. So yes, for me, that's leadership.

Oh my god....such leadership. Ask yourself, how come Egypt, Libya, etc, feels it can just attack our embassies anytime they like? Would the Russians allow this kind of behavior?

You're mistaking actual leadership with the need to posture like a gorilla.

Actually, we did. We had a chance to remove him, but instead we climbed into bed with him. We could have backed another coup, but the powers that be figured better the devil you know, than the devil you don't.

Sadly, as with all foreign policy decision we seem to make, no one takes the long view.

but why do you think the Arab world, or at least some of the Arab world believes its ok to attack and burn US embassies?

It's not "okay." They know it's not "okay."

What they are is angry and disenfranchised and also have monstrous amounts of propaganda poured into their ears daily.

Threats and bombing and war don't fix that, it makes that worse.

The loss of life is tragic, but there is no law that can keep people alive or bring them back to life. Regardless of the idea that Obama should be able to "do something" - he can only do things within the rule of law, not miracles, and not stupid things that help people vent anger but do nothing but produce more anger. Anger that caused a death of an ambassador, for instance.

There are people all over the world that hate me because of my nationality, my gender, my opinions...if I were the President, all I could do for "vengeance" would be to kill more people. That isn't a mature response, that's a short sighted and cyclical response that leads to more violence.

Okay, they did it!

A Wall Street Journal Roundup

Egyptian police on Saturday cleared out protesters who have been clashing with security forces for the past four days near the U.S. Embassy, as most cities around the Muslim world reported calm a day after at least six people were killed in a wave of angry protests over an anti-Islam film.

Can't say it any better or clearer than this.

Folks who voted for Obama ought to be looking at the facts, it's his pusillanimous policy that's falling apart all across the Middle East, that's harming U.S. Interests, and getting Americans killed. It's not about his critics and their justifiable criticisms.

Folks voting for ROMMODUCHE need to look at the facts....they are putting a guy

Who did Obamacare first

Supports gun bans

Is pro choice

Supports gay marriage

and has a record of being a typical statist and by all definitions is a further left leaning socialist than Obama could hope to be when you set his GOP rhetoric aside and look at his record of action. Have fun voting for the socialist douchewad over the more conservative Obama LMFAO!!!

God damn vette! you right wing FOX slaves will vote for fucking anything with an R in front of his name wont ya? Even if he promises prosperity through the iron fist of government mandates (which Romney said on TV he likes and supports btw much to the amusement of Obama) lmfao!!

I agree with everything you said but this.....it is only short sighted if you fail to finish, which most Americans are to sensitive to stomach. So you are still right b/c we will never finish said job.

Merikuh is weak and will fall....we make our elite warriors go through sensitivity training so they aren't so mean, fucking seriously and not even a joke. We are so concerned with being PC we spend millions a year making sure our forces kill people nicely and with sensitivity......

This level of stupidity is bound to fuck us all...

I understand your point, but I still don't see it as the best option. The fact of the matter is that we need the middle-east because we are dependent on oil and one party lacks the political will to go along with the party to end that dependency.

We require their resources, and without helping them build infrastructure to get us that oil, then we are cutting off our nose to spite our face.

How long until Saudi Arabia comes back to bite us in the ass?

..

I agree, that's why he was low on my list of Repubs to vote for.

I have yet to hear what he is going to do for America...jobs, energy, borders etc.

But the bottom line is.... he's better than the useless serial liar we have in office right now.

I agree, that's why he was low on my list of Repubs to vote for..

I hear that all over the place, but what I don't hear is the outrage that Ron Paul was moping the fucking floor with EVERYONE until Goldman Sachs stepped in, gave Romney/Fox a boat load of money.

Suddenly Paul was public enemy number one with his dangerous foreign policy!! The dangerous foreign policy that no one could identify and define....

Just keep saying it until the sheeple believe it...lol

Please....you are disenfranchised, your vote matters not...the office of POTUS is bought and paid for. As such the status quo will continue regardless of which douchewad winds up in the oval office.

But the bottom line is.... he's better than the useless serial liar we have in office right now.

You honestly believe the socialist who taught Obama everything he knows is going to be better b/c he and FOX changed their tune with the arrival of their Sachs paychecks?

LMFAO.....keep chugging that kool aid.

You had a chance to remove him? Like when?

And let's face it, had the US removed him, especially by backing another coup (by whom? The Muslim Brotherhood?) you'd still be complaining that the US was responsible for installing whichever bad guy filled the vacuum next.

cry me a river....

In Bangkok, 700 Muslims demonstrated peacefully in protest of the alleged "film" in front of the U.S. Embassy there.

In the M. East, evidently 22 y/o women are blowing themselves up in cars to take out any and all foreigners.

It must be the heat.

The United States of America "withdraws" from Korea, Germany, Japan and the Middle East by the time:

  • Pigs pilot space missions to Alpha Centauri.
  • Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station (Antarctica) hosts beach volleyball tournament.
  • Jesus Christ returns to earth during closing ceremonies of 2086 Summer Olympics in Shenyang, China.

Pull out.... Then nuke it till the sand is glass... Fuck 'em, the.world would be a better place
