Is it possible to delete account, submissions, or both?

Hi everyone,

I've spent some time scouring the FAQ on both the forum site and main site, but have been unable to find the right information.

I would like to delete my account, both on the main site for story submissions/feedback and my forum account (if they are separate).

If anyone can point me in the right direction please, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thank you in advance!

I don't think you can delete your account. Perhaps a moderator type person can. Maybe you can PM one of those folks, but from what I've read, deleting your account here is not really possible.

It's a shame to see Sexual Harassment Panda leave though. Laaaaaaame.

Thank you so much for your response! (and for your Cartman-esque "laaaame"!) I have contacted a moderator and hope to hear back.

Thank you again, and have a wonderful weekend! :D

The mods can't do anything for you. Stories and forum accounts must be dealt with separately, and changes to either can only be made by the site owners/admins.

Stories can easily be removed by re-submitting them with the exact same title and DELETE, plus a polite note that you'd like the story removed from the site. IIRC, the format is "My Sex Story--DELETE" for the title, but follow the instructions for submitting an edited story (with DELETE instead of EDITED, obviously), which are in the Submissions FAQ on the main site.

Forum accounts can be modified, but not deleted completely. Usernames are erased, profiles are cleared and the posts are replaced by a froggy emoticon, but quotes and references to the person aren't affected. However, accounts are only modified when the member has far too many posts to edit and there's an incredibly compelling reason that necessitates a deletion/modification.

As you can imagine, many people have "buyers remorse" after being here because their partner has found out they've been here secretly, they've said dumb things in haste, connected Lit to their real life or they're simply bored with the site. Hell, we've had multiple threads asking about account deletion in just the past few weeks! Deleting the accounts of all of those folks with under 500 posts would eat up a ton of time that could be spent on far more important things, so if people can modify their accounts themselves, they should do so. IOW, if simply abandoning your account (after you clear your profile and edit away any posts you don't want to be blatantly visible) will work, that's what you need to do. If going that route will result in a threat to your life, marriage, career, custody of your kids, etc., then it'd be appropriate to PM Laurel with a polite request for your account to be deleted.

So, you definitely need to ask for the stories to be removed via the process described above, but if you can simply edit and abandon your forum account, take care of that yourself. Editing ALL of your 236 posts down to five periods wouldn't even be that monumental of a task; I'm guessing you could get away with just editing the posts that are causing the problem, like most people.

Thank you so much for all the info Erika!

Actually, (naively,) I was thinking if I were no longer going to use my account it would be easier (and free up more server space) if it were just deleted altogether. However, it sounds like the opposite is true! xD

Well, you know what they say about good intentions... ;)

As this is the case, and deleting the account would actually be MORE work (I thought they could simply push a button and delete me), I'll leave it as it is.

Thank you both very, very much for your help! I really appreciate it.

Have a wonderful weekend!

And oh man, now I feel bad lol - nothing is causing a problem in any way.

The site and its users are fabulous!

I just haven't used the account in a while and wanted to clear it out if it would be helpful.

Nothing against anyone (and nothing anyone has, or I have, said) - you're all wonderful! :D

I have no regrets - this site has been, and continues to be, a great place filled with great people.

Thank you very much and I wish everyone the best!

Nah, no need to feel bad, and hopefully you didn't take my post as an admonition. :rose:

I can see where you were coming from, and believe me, plenty of people figure the same thing and don't really have a sense of the bottleneck WRT admin duties/power here. The number of members is so large (this is one of the biggest boards in existence) that it could easily be a full time job just dealing with requests for name changes and account deletions if people request those without solid reasons!

Anyhow, my advice is to edit your profile to let people know you're taking an extended hiatus in the very least and play with your options (email notifications, receiving PMs, etc.) and then just walk away. Unless you've attached a gazillion images or something (even then, you could delete just those via your UserCP), your account won't be taking up any noticeable server space. Going that route will allow you to come back easily in the future if you ever wish to do so. I hope you do at some point because I've always enjoyed your posts, and I'm sure I'm far from alone in that! :) Plenty of members take even multi-year breaks and then return if/when it tickles their fancy.
