An admiral or general... I forget which who wanted the first Iwo Jima flag... the one we saw going up was a replacement... Ed Rosenthal was the lucky photographer who got the famous picture...

Its a wonderful picture.. the triangluation of images is just about perfect....

Theres a terrific book written about it... Flag of Our Fathers... written about the six men who raised the flag... Only 3 of whom survived Iwo Jima...
