Is it crass to vote for one's own stories, or is it just not done?

Do I really care? I vote for all of mine. Yeah baby, the 5's are rolling in. Well, at least one of them. Am I the only author that practices this particular and somewhat shady habit?

New story posted, time to go call all my friends and tell them to vote for me! Too bad none of them have computers, just the library which doesn't permit literotica. It's all the naked women, they just can't handle it.

I vote for my own stuff, KM. I figure after all that work, I'm entitled to give myself a pat on the back. I don't go around asking people to vote for it. That's just a little beyond what I feel comfortable doing. And as much as I'm tempted to start a thread asking for feedback, I generally won't do that either. :)

Dancing with your self.

The Literotica Awards, indeed the entire voting and top list system, lost what credibility it had when "Night Waitress" was reposted as new again today.

Guest, email your concern to webmaster@literotica.com, it will be addressed. As you've noticed the new scripts are in place and with the new scripts there is a new way of submitting stories to literotica, as opposed to the old way of emailing the submit@literotica. Some people whose stories were at the bottom of the backlog pile have re-submitted via the new scripts. I imagine some didn't tell Laurel they did so, so she, being a human being, posted it twice. Vigilent readers are helpful in stopping these errors.

Guilty

Well, I did vote on one of my stories and one of my poems. The main reason for this was because I kinda wanted to "get the ball rolling." My poems still have very few votes. Since I had such a response to my second story, I didn't vote on it myself because I didn't see a reason to ;)If I felt I wrote a really good story, I don't see a problem giving it a 5. I think the only time I'd have a problem is if maybe I felt it wasn't my best effort.

Personally I think that the minute they're posted, every submission should get its first vote automatically posted as a 5. Takes a lot of courage for some to take that step <eg>. After that, it's into the lion's den for us all.

In the end, they're only numbers...I don't think, other than to help my story get enough votes to make it to the top list where it will be better seen - I would vote for one of mine again, but who can say for sure? ;)

I assure you, Constant Reader, that there were no black helicopters or multiple gunmen on the grassy knoll. We are still adjusting the scripts, and things are bound to happen. You'll save yourself a lot of worry and frustration by doing as others do - emailing me with your concern, along with links to the problem areas. :)

I don't vote on my stories. I figure that if I wrote it, I liked it, so it would get a high mark. If I didn't like it, then I probably wouldn't have finished in the first place, much less posted the piece of trash. (I've got lots of unfinished stories! ;))

I think the votes are to determine what other people like in stories. If they like them, they vote with a good score. If they dislike them, they either give them a low score or don't bother to vote. I'm OK either way.

In my case, judging by the votes I get, either no one's reading them or they dislike them and want to spare my feelings by not voting. I think I have something like 5 votes total for the dozen or so stories I have posted on here. Go figure.

Guilty, I vote once, and if any author gives their own story less than a five...

I often wonder whether there is a way to tell whether there are multiple votes coming from the same source (IP address). Which would amount to 'stuffing' the vote to get your story higher on the top list, or get it an H rating. Arguably this could get your story read more often, but would never make it a better story.

The low vote totals for your stories are because the votes under the old system did not get transfered to the new database. The five votes you do have are from people who not only sought out your stories, but liked them enough to vote.

When you get another story on the new stories page, the vote totals will go up on all of your stories because many people follow the author's link to find more of the same if they like a story.

The only reason I can see for an author voting on their own story, is to "prime the pump" with a good vote. That won't work here, because only the author can see fewer than ten votes. Consequently, I vote for any stories I have on EroticStories where the vote count is shown from the first hour after the first vote. I do not vote for my own stories here unless they've gone several days with nine votes, and just need a nudge to show up on the top stories list.

That happened to me with the second to last story that I had submitted, as well. My guess is that I forwarded it to someone, a fellow Lit member, and she re-submitted it. I received a 2nd notice from Literotica stating that they had received the story but I had to reply that it had been submitted over a month ago.

I have no problem with voting for my own story. I just hope that Literotica have no CHAD problems in their voting process.

Question for WH

How/where does an author find the fewer than ten votes? I don't know where to look.

Go to the story index page, at the top there is a login/logout feature. Login. Your name is Vixen and password is your board password. Scroll down you profile, all your submissions are listed. Oh yes, submit stories and poem on this page too. :)

Guilty, I vote for mine when they are posted and I read them over again on the web. I try to be honest! Honest!

In Journalism class in college, at the end of the semester, the Prof asked the class ( a small college) to write down what we thought we deserved in that class.

I'd done pretty well, but knew I was capable of doing better work. I put down a B+. That's what I got for the semester!

Everyone else, even those who hadn't worked hard, and sluffed off, etc. put down A+'s and got it.

Damn, sometimes you can be too honest for your own good!

I put in a vote if I can see it's up to 9 votes and I'm too impatient to wait for another reader to vote. I nag my chat room too. Threaten to talk nothing but politics until they vote. I suspect some of them give me lousy scores though. LOL.

I went to my profile in curiosity to see about votes for my story (My Story Day 1 by Jennifer kaye) and noticed that my story is not even linked into my profile. Is there a way to get this done without resubmitting it?

I think you probably have two pages as I do. Try logging in as "Jennifer Kaye" instead of just "Jennifer" If the password for Jennifer doesn't work, click on the "I forgot my password link" and the scripts will e-mail you the password for that login name.

(The story is listed on "Jennifer Kaye's" author page:

I made the same mistake - generating two Literotica handles. MadamePandora and Madame Pandora. Luckily, I noticed it before I tried to post a story under each ;-)

Laurel was able to handle the problem in time, and is very understanding...I would just front her a note and have a little patience with it. She's got that magic wand thingy, don'tcha know, but she wastes time on frivolous stuff like reading and posting stories...

Personally, I am still reeling from the disappointing revelation that her supernatural powers have limit...just always pictured her behind multi-screens of Matrix worthy tencho babble. Instead of in that box with the purple crayons...

;-P

Thanks weird, madame. It turns out that is indeed what must have happened.

One other tech question while we're at it (Sorry, i know this likely isn't the best place for it), I added a pic into my profile, but when I search my name and click the profile, I notice the picture does not appear. It's there when I go to edit my profile, but it does not appear on a generic search as any other use would perform. What gives with that?

Anything posted for public viewing at literotica has to be approved first, including any pics posted on your profile. Give it a day or two, Laurel will check it out and then do her little magic wand thing and presto, everyone can see it. Sort of like uploaded stories are listed as pending.

Thanks, KillerMuffin

Yippee! Not a lot of votes there, but they were a very nice ego stroke this morning. Thanks for telling me how to find out the good news.

Kudos from yourself

Yeh, I vote for myself, there's no shame in it. I give it what I think it deserves! (Mostly 5s here) It's sort of like masturbation in a way, kudos from yourself, and you're just getting started! Just wait until someone else joins the ratings!
