Is Craigs List a rip-off?

I was told by a friend of mine if I'd like to know a little personal lust (instead of just phone calls) then I should try "Craigslist" website.

For the major website there are also sites pertaining to cities in US & around the world. So, I tried being local and was truly crushed.

All the ads were redirects and sent me a link to a site, total bait-and-switch. Ridiculous!

I don't want to put a picture of my cock or face on the site, and I don't want to waste my time when I could be buying swingers magazines and having the same thing occur via the mail.

The success ratio was about the same: 1 - 10 real vs. fake.

~sigh!~

Any suggestions or experiences that worked for you?

Blessings,

Julian

Craigslist is what you make of it. If you're looking for quick, easy sex like a gazillion other guys, and are unwilling to put effort into finding a match, you're unlikely to have good results. If you're willing to put effort into deciphering the real posters from the scammers, writing your own ad and replying to other ads, you might find a match.

You should be willing to post a good pic of your body at least (not including your cock; you could crop out part/all of your face) and offer more pics with correspondence.

Nothing in life is completely free/without effort or guaranteed. Your best bet for quicker, more likely sex is hiring a hooker. If you're looking to find a pro online, steer clear of Craigslist - law enforcement has been known to use CL, and you're much better off with a site like The Erotic Review or similar.

I find it amazing how many guys are so shallow that they think they can just post a picture of their cock and women will be fighting each other off for the chance to have it. Women are different than men. It's the Mars/Venus thing. If a woman shows us a picture (or the real thing) of her breasts or pussy or whatever we would just naturally like to fuck her. If a guy shows off his cock, even to a very sexual woman, it usually turns her off or makes her wonder just how stupid this guy is. We guys love to see all different kinds of boobs and pussy but to a woman, a cock is just another cock.

So I Am Learning

Thank you all for your information ... and thank you all for the responses ... does anyone have suggestions as to how to make a good craigslist ad work for me?

Also, would you like me to post the actual replies I received?

Blessings,

Julian

If you aren't in one of the cities that has an active Craig's List board, you won't have much luck. Maybe try Adult Friend Finder.

AFF has plenty of fakes and a ton of men for every real woman, too. Plus, it's a pay site, and there have been complaints about the site owners committing credit card and other types of fraud (google 'adultfriendfinder scam fraud'). It works for some, but it's by no means a site with better odds or fewer scammers.

Julian, I'd suggest reading through legit CL ads of both men (your competitors) and women, and then crafting a clear, honest ad that shows your personality and attracts attention. Be sure to include at least one pic of yourself and offer more, as I said before. Avoid centering the text of your ad, like you do with your posts - it's difficult to read.

You also might want to consider looking for couples who are seeking another male. Many don't want MM interaction - the other dude is just there to have sex with the wife/gf. You might have luck browsing through MW4M ads on CL and other sites, and looking through and posting ads on swingers personals, like Swinglifestyle/SLS Personals.

It's Craigslist. If you don't live in a major city, your chances of meeting anyone are slim to none. That being said, I've made a couple of good friends by replying to "legitimate" ads (read: ads without references to other websites). Here are some tips.

1. Be vigilant. If you're looking to meet someone on CL, but you're disadvantaged by lack of choices, you're going to have to visit the site on a daily basis. Otherwise, the few legitimate people on the site are going to get swept up by the first people to respond.
2. Quid pro quo. If you aren't offering up pictures, don't make the mistake of asking for pictures. It's easy to take a few G-rated shots of yourself, for public consumption. When a connection has been established, then it's permittable to up your ante. Remember the picture collectors. No sense in polluting the Internet with full body shots of yourself.
2a. Unless it's over the 8 inch barrier, don't post cock pics. It's been done.
3. Patience is a virtue, especially in a more rural area. Don't be too anxious, you'll scare the fishes.
4. If a guy wants you to hook up with his wife, but he wants to hook up with you first, he isn't married. It's very likely that he isn't even bi, never mind bi-curious or straight. He's gay. This also goes for "black room blowjobs", "private gloryholes", or "she just wants to watch".
5. :rose: means money. "Generous", "considerate" and "affluent" are also signs of prostitution. And phrases like, "We need 100 reasons to let you into our house", are dead giveaways.
6. Ski, bump, snow, blow, etc.=cocaine. Tina=crystal meth. White lady, china, =heroin. If they're getting that high, there's no telling who/what they're willing to do for more drugs. And if they're willing to do {insert perverse/unsafe sexual act here} to you, you probably aren't the first person that they've done it for. No sense in picking up a raft of diseases for a couple hours of fun.

Thank you all

Well there has been a lot of good information here & from some friends of mine who favor craigslist so we'll see what the future entails.

Thanks again for all your assistance & many blessings to you all.

After seeing a lot of ads (I know.... I'm sorry. Admittedly, I do sometimes read them because I find it entertaining :\ Don't hate me. I *do* read some of them because they are simply entertaining in a very good way ;-) ), one night I felt compelled to write something about what I felt worked in a personal ad.

You can find it here:

The short version?
You will get out of it what you put into it.
Women won't bother with you if you don't give them something to bother with.

And, agreed....
It may work for some. But for me? A picture of a cock doesn't give me anything to work with. Tell me what is between your ears and then conversation becomes a stronger possibility. :)

Best of luck!

I have a thread on this board called "Craigslist Insanity". I started it after I had a long, drawn-out "Can you believe this ad!", chat session with a friend of mine. After 6 months of finding some of the most disgusting ads on the planet, I'm cured of any desire to pick up someone on that site for NSAs.

I just set up a website of my own on Geocities & I let its' visitors decide what to do from there. E-mail me or set-up a phone-fuck or add me to their MSN/Yahoo IM "Friend" list. If they want more, include a street or PO Box address with a whole body picture (g-rated or x-rated at their discretion,) & see how things play-out. I describe myself and my fantasies & my favorite porn clips on my website & let the chips fall where they may.

Well, it depends on what you are looking for. Used furniture or a used car? It is probably a good idea to check it out for those. For sex, or especially for a relationship? I have never done it, but I have heard and read so many horror stories about CL hookups, I wouldn't go near it with a 20 foot pole. The success rate is not going to be very good. Are you really THAT desperate and horny?

Oh...and please stop with the cutesy centered text in all the pretty colors. I for one find it extremely difficult to read like that. Just because you can doesn't mean you should

well craigslist has a lot of "scammers" on there... but for me i have gotten quite of few things from them and sold somethings

Yes there are some bad people on craigslist that I will not deny. I have been very fortunate. A year ago I posted an ad on there. Specifically stating that I was looking for a relationship....not a one night stand sort of thing. I got very lucky and met a very nice man who I have been seeing since December. Just shows that you can find some nice people on there. Yes I won't say that you will be safe from weirdos, but you have to carefully screen people. We talked a month before we met and I told a friend where I was going and such just in case of anything.

I have not tried Craigs List but I had an online buddy that had lots of luck. He watched for real women and wrote them back nice and friendly emails. He never pressured the women he wrote and was himself. He sent pictures if they asked and formed a fun online relationship before he met them in person. He lived in a big city and he was not picky so he had lots of luck. He has a steady girlfriend now so he is not looking on Craigs. I think he met her on Craigs however. He says to be patient and sort through all of the garbage and you can find diamonds in the rough. I hope this helps.

i met my boyfriend on craigslist.com so no its not all fake. some are yes - it depends on what kind of posts your asking for.
most 'OMG FUCK ME NOW" posts are fakes.

I couldnt agree more with this.... DO NOT contact people in the personals section of CL. Its dangerous. Once I got a in a pretty sketchy situation and had to literally run to my car and speed off.. not fun.

yeah one out of how many?
i met several potential partners on craigslist and am dating one of them - not a single one of them even came off as threatening or disheartening in the least bit. just werent looking for the same thing i was.

so dont think that since one is a bad apple that they all are. thats like walking into a grocery store saying "she's a child beater, he's a rapist, that kid is going to be a murderer" its just not ethical.

I will chime in here to say that yeah Craigslist can work with ample portions of patience and vigilance. I tend to use Craigslist to find other women "like me" (happily bisexual, but not always looking for a threesome) as most sites for women dating women are women seeking some form of the U-Haul Syndrome, and swinger sites rarely if ever have honest to goodness posts from single women or women dating on their own. Whenever I post to Craigslist, 40% of the responses will be from single men "just checking" to see if I like what they have, 30% will be from women seeking me to be the guest star in their marriage bed, 20% will be from married men seeking to have me seduce their often unsuspecting wife, and 10% will be from women who actually match the rather basic requirements I clearly state in my post.

I usually do silly things like ask the respondent to tell me their favorite flower, scent, color, etc as a way of weeding through who actually read what I posted, and inevitably I still get photos of dangling wieners or butt shots from women.

Another free site I have used before is called Plenty of Fish.

made me giggle at the truth of it lol

All the cock shots surprise me too. If you read only a few posts from women you will hear over and over that they don't want to see pictures of guys units. However once in a while one will post that they love cock shots. Maybe the few excite the many. lol

(Some) women do this too. Usually, not always but usually, whenever I post looking for another woman, I get responses from couples. Again, usually it's the man in the couple sending a couple of photos, so I am "treated" to photographs of his unit and her butt.

One woman did send me a photo of her butt and a nice enough note, so I replied in kind. Her next email was also nice, asked me to send a photo of me smiling, so I did so. Her next email had another photo of her butt. When I told her I found that just a tad lacking in respect, she grew upset... and this is why Craigslist can be so hit and miss.
