Is an "E" an invitation for a harangue of 1 votes?

That pretty much says it all. Should those of us who don't orient our work strictly to one-handed readers settle for the flurry of frustrated one votes launched when an author is given the "lauded" editorial green "E" status?

However, I do not wish to give up my "E."

Sigh.

I don't know. Are you having that problem?

If so, I'd imagine that it is either jealousy from writers who've never gotten one, or a stroker who was disappointed. "This isn't hot at all! I'm in the third paragraph and no one's face has been cummed on!"

It makes me far more likely to read a story. I'll be sure to check yours out.

Congrats.

We all have different ideals. I agree with what karmadog said.

Some people will be disappointed if you don't include atleast one incest fuck, three mentions of the word "bitch", five lesbians, a 16" black dick, and about two cups of sperm dripping out of a girl's mouth.

Then there is the other type, like me, who stops reading if the first paragraph includes a description of a stuck-up slut-to-be with 36DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD breasts, or if it turns out to be one of those she-was-raped-but-all-of-a-sudden-she-started-to-like-being-raped - stories.

I would like to get that red H behind a title of some of my stories, but I'll settle for quality over popularity. As always.

Take care, Ulyssa! Of yourself and your family.

I've always found an H to be an invitation for vote bombing, but I've never had an E, so I can't comment as a writer. As a reader, I'll always go to an E story ahead of any others.

Both of my 'E's' are for stories that contain very little sex and/or take a very long time to get there - so I never took the low votes as an attack over the 'E' itself. It's more the reality of not giving the readers what they expect. I think that if a writer wants instant high marks the story needs to be very hot and to the point.

Sometimes I'm not in the mood for hot and to the point, but the sex in the stories make the material inappropriate for other, all-ages sites. So I'm happy just to have a place to post this stuff. The readers will like it or not, and they're free to vote as they feel.

my take on E's and H's

An E is awarded by the webmaster. It is the opinion of the owner of the site. That is only one person. She pays the bills. It is her right.

An H is acheived by multiple "5" votes. No one ever has a perfect 5.00. While there are spoilers lurking, eventually the well written hot story will prevail.

If you are looking for praise for a fine piece of literature, you are addressing the wrong audience. Most of us are here for light hearted, preverted and harmless fun.

I don't think you can say the writer of a more literary piece of erotica is addressing the wrong audience here per se. Although the percentage of readers seeking such writing is, indeed, smaller than that of those seeking "light hearted, preverted and harmless fun," said percentage represents a particularly loyal and appreciative group. For one thing, there are few other places that a writer of this type of erotica can go to publish quickly and easily and still reach a large audience--clearly not as large as that reached by your basic, well-done stroke story, but still large compared to, say, that reached by passing the story around among friends. Also, this is one of the few places where readers can go to find such stories. Personally, I respect the demand for stroke stories but I don't give two craps about reading them; I am only interested in reading well-written, plot-driven stories and, like others have mentioned, I seek out the little green E's in particular.

I wouldn't say it's so much a situation of a writer needing to seek his/her audience elsewhere as simply recognize and accept that they, by writing a more literary-oriented piece, are catering to a minority among a sometimes outspoken majority. That's just the way it is. The occasional 1-vote is going to happen when someone looking for stroke material takes a wrong turn. Technically they should be mature about things and realize that what they've encountered is not a "bad" story but one that simply doesn't cater to their particular tastes, but the fact is some of them won't. There are lots of petty people in this world.

It's easy to say and difficult to do, I know, when it's your story that's being harangued, but try not to let it bother you. If you got the green E in the first place, you know your story doesn't suck :).

I'm afraid I can't answer your question. I do have a few Es, but I have no idea if or when I've gotten 1 votes. I assume I have.

I think that if your story stays posted for long enough, the few malicious ones will be balanced out. Sure, it'll take a while, but who cares?

I know it's easier said than done, but don't freak about votes. It's not worth it.
