Just got done watching it. First impression: These people are fucking gun crazy!
Second impression: Very unprofessional TV.

Anyway, on to the meat of the thread. This is some of what Iraqi TV was just reporting on. I'll bet you that CNN didn't cover most of this.

Coalition forces are NOT in control of Umm Qasr, but only dock #10.
Oh yeah, we're stupid.

Direct quote from the dude on TV. Never did catch his name, but I'm sure you've all seen him. "We are hitting them beautifully from Umm Qasr. From the docks."

He says that Rumsfeld is a war criminal.

Claims that an unspecified number of American tanks have been destroyed.

Fedayeen Saddam have destroyed 3 tanks south of Najaf.
South of Nassariyah, 12 tanks and personnel carriers were surrounded and destroyed.

200 houses were destroyed in Nassariyah, along with 500 wounded. This was reported to be done by the coalition forces.

The Iraqis are alleging the use of cluster bombs.
In Babylon, 2 civilian quarters were bombed, with 4 "martyred" and 18 wounded.
In Baghda, the Shaab(sp?) area was cluster bombed. (This would be the area that was hit with supposedly stray cruise missiles.)

And that's the current round up of Iraqi news. Personally, I think they all need to stop smoking the crack pipe.

It is obvious propaganda. People really think to compare the media here to that?? Does anyone really think that the media is not going to report the truth as well as they can? Every eye in the world is on Iraq. There will be no room for gross mistruths and coverups, if there are any, they will be uncovered.
Now, if I were in Saddam's shoes, I would be doing the same thing, though. Affecting world opinion is the best weapon he has against the US.

Perhaps this would be more entertaining for the Iraqi's.

Please don't tell me you believe everything you hear on their station. While I don't believe everything we hear on the news I certainly don't believe 95% of what I hear from there. They tell those people exactly what they want them to know. Not what they want to hear.

The west has a vested interst to portay the war in a western friendly light. Both sides are campaigning hard.

That's for y'all to decide. I'm simply telling what they were saying. I figured since I have access to it, and most Americans don't, I'd post about it.

I guess you didn't read my last line. :D

Let's see...first of all, yes, Iraq's culture is a fighting culture....every home has at least one AK47 or other assault rifle. Keep in mind that every adult male in Switzerland has a government issued military rifle and ammo in his home as well, so it's not that strange....and quite handy if you're invaded, as it turns out.

CNN is reporting that the main pier at Umm Qasr is being held with near constant sniping at nite, so the Iraqi account sounds accurate.

Rumsfeld: He's the guy that supplied Iraq with lots of weaponry to kill Iranians, then cut it off when Iraq started to lose and had to retreat....he used and betrayed Iraq on behalf of the USA before...of course to them he's a SlimeBall!

CNN reported this morning the loss of two US tanks yesterday... and the loss of several other supply and light fighting vehicles on a diesel fuel run fire fight that went on all night.

The Red Cross/Red Cresent are confirming hundreds of injured women and children in Iraqi hospitals with various war wounds from being in homes that were hit....keep in mind that in Iraq, urban planning is different than in the USA...over there, government and commercial buildings don't all cluster in one part of a city...they exist one by one typically surrounded by houses, stores, what have you....so yes, citizens will be killed.

Who knows what kind of munitions the US are using? you can be guaranteed of this much judging by the footage on US TV....they are fucking big.

Overall, I see much less professional "massaging" of facts on television reports from everywhere, except the USA....the Us Media are the undisputed Spin Masters.

Thank you Lance. I say Question Everything! Both sides are pulling hard on our emotions. The truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Yes it does, but, I would be more inclined to believe one more than the other.

Are you trying to tell me a conspiracy involving all the major news networks is happening? Those examples are not exactly like what is happening now. Read or reread my first post in this thread to get what I mean.

Massaging & Spinning is far removed from gross lies and conspiracies...at least on the surface.

WMD are not mentioned nearly as often as Regime Change now, for example...the government has fed the switcheroo to the media and has anyone said anything? Nope. But ask yourself why WMD are now downplayed and Regime Change is #1 with a bullet.....

How 'bout that 82nd airborne?

Notice how nobody's reporting where they are?

Please don't try to tell me the US Media is the fount of Truth and Fact.

I was just pointing out instances where the government has lied. It happens - all the time. Check your sources - watch/read other countries news media. Question everything!

Thanks for posting April.

Our news said two tanks were damaged, along with one troop carrier.

I wonder if the reporters (from US, UK and many other countries) who are traveling with the coalition forces are reporting accurately. I would guess that they are.

Actually, they did address it in pretty good detail. They said that they still suspect that there are WMD present and, in fact, internal Iraqi communicaque's suggest they may be used against our troops. They said that finding the WMD will take time because most are well hidden and that finding them will be one of the functions of the peaceful transition effort. Doesn't sound like an "evil conspiracy" in that statement.

This excuse is overused in my opinion. In this day and age people can get news from anywhere. I've seen numerous posts (many of them from Europeans) that either insinuate or straight up say that those in favor of this military action are only so because they are brainwashed by the US media. This is non-sense, I give everyone (regardless of your stance) the benifit of the doubt that they get their news from multiple sources. Saying someone is brainwashed by the US media holds no water in this day and age. Now Iraq on the otherhand, where you have state controlled media with little outside influence, that is state sponsored brainwashing.

Iraq TV seems to be down again. It's been so for a few hours I think.
Not that anybody cares.

Unbiased my ass! If anyone actually thinks that any of the arab "news services" are unbiased, they're crazy.

Got that site bookmarked. Thanks.
