Iraq diversion

The recent loud beating of the war drums against Iraq sure has served its purpose. Not long ago, revelations about corporate wrongdoing, including Bush's at Harken and Cheney's at Haliburton, and the collapsing stock market and economy filled the headlines. Many Americans were beginning to realize that the entire business careers of both Bush and Cheney were based upon fraud and cronyism. You don't hear about any of that now, because the saber-rattling against Iraq has pushed it out of the headlines. Saddam Hussein has replaced Osama bin Laden ("been forgotten") as the new Enemy du Jour. (Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia; it never was at war with Eurasia.) Meanwhile, the stock market fell over 200 points yesterday and continues to drop today; the economy is still in the doldrums; millions of Americans are out of work through no fault of their own and financially suffering-- but all that is drowned out by the beat of war drums. And conveniently, this began just two months before the upcoming congessional elections. Purely a coincidence, I'm sure . . .

War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength, y'all.

Sounds like Bosnia to me. Oh wait, Iraq actually represents a THREAT! Damn, I knew there was a difference.

Millions of people were out of work when Clinton was in office.

Clinton attacked Iraq, on several occasions.

Clinton sent more than 50 Tomahawk missiles into Afghanistan, as a pre-emptive strike against terrorism. That is a more clear cut case of "murder" than what GW is doing now.

Clinton went to Kosovo, and accomplished NOTHING.

Watch out there stick!.... you might accidentally be labeled a right winger!

Remember... we're not allowed to bring up any facts regarding slick willy... the libs hate that! Oh wait!... the libs made a shitload of money off the slickster when they filmed "Blackhawk Down". Makes a person wonder if the press was invited to film the "Somalia' invasion realtime so that the operation would fail before the first American even set foot on the beaches... Oh well right? There WAS a lot of money to be made.

Oh, and REDWAVE! What is your major malfunction NUMBNUTS??? Didn't mommy and daddy show you enough attention as a child?

Maybe

He had to much attention as a child or maybe he is still a child

It's all Clinton's fault!

Oh, yeah, right, Stick, I forgot all about that. How silly of me! Of course, even though he's been out of office for almost two years now, Clinton is to blame for everything that's wrong with the world. Anything good, our glorious King George III deserves the credit for, but anything bad is Clinton's fault. Similarly, Clinton doesn't deserve any credit for anything good which happened on his watch. Why, hell, I think Clinton was responsible for Original Sin and humanity's expulsion from the Garden of Eden, wasn't he?

Responsible? No, be he might have been a re-enactor! ;)

Lenny

Lenny Bruce is one of my favorites, DCL.

What do you think he would be saying if he were alive today?

post dodger, you never address the point at hand. you never give a clear answer. when asked a question you avoid it. my prediction for this thread is sometime before the third page of this thread, you're gonna cut and paste the same bullshit socialist rhetoric...

then you'll get overjoyed when someone agrees with one point out of 50, you'll log off and jerk off all over your Karl Marx blow up doll.

that you're an idiot

Didn't ask you

I didn't ask you, Stick. Your comment only shows how woefully ignorant of Bruce's work you are. He would be much more likely to say Bush is an idiot.

Notice DCL has failed to answer my question. That's because he's smart enough to realize it places him in a double bind.

no where in your initial post did you mention Lenny Bruce. I'm not the DCL post police, you want an answer from him you call him out. There is a difference in respecting someones belief and ideology, and agreeing with them.

don't you have an appointment to be oppressed somewhere?

Quite the rabble rouser, didn't recognize him there.

How many times did he get thrown in jail?

Not as many times as REDWAVE's seen Revolution in the eyes of everyone who returns an undercooked Big Mac.

Once again you make an assumption based on results you've already invented.

I didn't answer your question because I just logged onto this thread again, you Dopey cream-puff.

Lenny never thought of himself as a comic, but a social commentator, so he would have stayed away from the easy stuff and conspiracy theories, and attacked Bush's takes on Abortion, Flag Amendments and Fetal Cell Research. He would certainly have something to say about the country's hawkish mentality.

But he wouldn't be stupid enough to suggest that Bush wants to send thousands of American soliders to Iraq just so he can "distract" from domestic troubles that every President expects to face while in office.

The markets corrected and even now, the American Representatives in Congress are looking deeper into Global Crossing, Qwest, Martha Stewart, and other nefarious business rogues. The correction even you predicted (and not because of Bush :D )!

FloridaGuy: Finally got a DVD of Blackhawk Down. Will watch this PM.

PC – Why do you let Dixon bring out the worst in you? Even your trolls are more entertaining.

I love you too, sweetheart!

Once again, DCL, you distort my position into a caricature of itself, employing the "straw man" technique of propaganda.

I certainly don't think Bush wants to send troops to Iraq just to distract from domestic troubles. I think he wants to send troops to Iraq mainly to control the oil reserves of the Middle East, and further the goal of U.S. global hegemony. The point of this thread is to suggest that Bush and his top people are talking about invading Iraq now to distract attention from business scandals and the economy, and to try to help Republican candidates in the upcoming congressional elections.

Stupid? I think it's stupid, and very naive, not to recognize that nearly everything Bush does is calculated for political effect, and to manipulate public opinion. Karl Rove is one of his key advisors.

As for the timing of the actual invasion of Iraq, I read one article which suggested that Bush will hold that off until as close to the 2004 election as possible. With the economic crisis expected to continue at least until then, and with opposition to him mounting, he will need the renewed burst of war fever and jingoism an attack on Iraq will give him . . .
