The state of Iowa, sworn enemy of "wokeness", began requiring parental permission for kids to use nicknames in schools this year.

If you wanted to be really pedantic, this isn't Big Brother watching everything, so much as it's Big Brother making sure kids with abusive parents won't be able to hide anything from them.

How does it do that?

All the boys named Stacy, Tracy, and Kacey REJOICE!
Honestly do you know how bad this is gonna fuck kids named Chris? There is a near 90% that if you have 10 or more white or black males you've got two Chris's And that's ignoring some Christians go by Chris and its not impossible to friend a Crystal, Kristina who go by the name Chris. We're gonna need permission slips, permission slips for every fucking classroom?

If believe YD895 was highlighting how the new rule / form automatically “outs” a kid to abusive parents who would punish them for their choice to be addressed by their chosen name.

Obviously, many kids with abusive parents hide their identity from them to avoid that punishment.

Same as it ever was.

SAD!!!

Correct. More generally, it's just the overall sense that parents have a right to know absolutely everything about their kids that rubs me the wrong way, having grown up with an immediate family member who was perpetually on the brink of a nervous breakdown. There were definitely times when I was better off just handling my own problems. Even my dad later agreed with me on that.
