Intrinically Sexual Plots vs Grafted Scenes

A lot of the stories on Lit seem to be the one scene 'boink and run' type of story. Nothing wrong with that but I like longer, more involved stories. The problem with that is that it often gets hard to create plots where sex is the point and is not gratuitous. Whereas some tales make sex the whole point and events revolve around it, others tell a more conventional tale and the sex becomes added almost as an afterthought.

Do you guys prefer the sex to be a crucial element in the plot resolution, or is it okay to add scenes as long as they are well written?

Why, or why not?

I like stories that have long, involved plots, where sex is just part of the life of the character. I don't like to read the "boink and run" stories as much, but I have read them before = ) Usually when I read a story on lit, I read the story part and skip the sex part, so it's harder when the story is all sex. However, this IS an erotica site, and I think that most people are on here looking for descriptions of the sexual act. That's why this site works, I suppose, we've got all sorts of different acts and different stories.

So, to answer your question, I don't prefer sex to be the center of the story, but sex scenes can be fine if they're part of the plot. In My Humble Opinion.

When I first started reading this and related sites a few years ago the boink and run story was good enough. However, now I find myself getting bored with those and usually leave before half way through the story. Now I like stories with a fairly detailed plot that leads up to a sex scene. Much like Chicklet stated above, sometimes I read the plot details and skim or skip the sex part altogether. It usually depends on the story, my interest level at the time and the mood I am in.

Why would you do this? When I write erotica I try to make the sex a meaningful part of the plot and the driving action. Often, the sex is tightly intertwined with the plotline. Why choose to read erotica then seek to skip over the erotic elements in it? Wouldn't it just be easier to read a mainstream story?

I might be wierd, but sometimes I find the most erotic part of the story is the build-up to and anticipation of the sex scene instead of the sex itself. Usually my mind takes over and I imagine the rest of the scene myself. I realize this is not "fair" to the author, but if I find it to be an exceptionally good story, I will usually re-read it straight through and see if it is better than what I imagined. Usually it is.

I like parts of the sex...I like certain things...but overall I don't like it. Why don't I look for mainstream stories? I like kidnapping stories and there are a plethora of them here! I like the stories that describe feelings and story and a lot of them on this site don't. Yours are great, I read the sex in your stories <wink> but not in a lot of others. It's just what kind of mood I have...I'm an oddball.

That's valid, and a response I never would have expected. Thanks for filling me in.
