I am trying to download erotic stories from ASSTR and I have noticed that the built in ftp of IE 6.0 is very unreliable; after 2-3 files it seems to get stuck and I need to close that instance of IE and start over again, even if I do each file individually.

Any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong, or have setup wrong?

No, Sorry. My wife and I tried out IE6 when it was still beta, It sucked.

I think she had trouble downloading stuff also. She demanded I get rid of it. So i gobacked it off the computer. We are sticking with IE5.5. We are running 98se.

If you don't have an unistall and you can't to it thru the add/remove programs panel, I think you can uninstall it from the update page at micrsoft.

Maybe someone else knows how to fix it.

if i have to ask what a built in ftp is, i probably won't be much help, huh?

i could wiggle my butt for you though if that'll make you feel any better...(feminism be damned...i'm in such a wanton mood tonight)

Do you run a firewall? and are you on a broadband connection? If so go to tools-internet options-advanced-and check the box that allows passive ftp and see if it helps.

No firewall/etc.

I am running it on a W2K machine with a dial up. I got tired of IE 5.x not being able to open up more than X num of windows, and I needed 128 bit encryption to access my bank account, so I went to IE6.

So far it has been okay; I can open up at least 3 times as many windows if I wish, it doesn't seem as buggy, and so on, but when I try to ftp, it works okay only as long as I try single files one at a time. If I try more than one it sometimes works for a while, and then hangs and I have to restart it. Lately it has got to the point where I have to reboot the computer to ftp to work again.

I guess I could go for some dedicated ftp program and try that, but it is really nice to ftp built in and just drag and drop files from the browser to my computer, or to right click and tell it copy the files to a folder.

Maybe I will try the passive option anyway - thanks.

ftp is File Transfer Protocol. If you got to ftp://ftp.asstr.org/incoming/ you will see what looks like a bunch of files (because that is what they are), and in IE6 (maybe earlier versions to0 - I never tried it, I always used a dedicated program for ftp) you can use the browser to download the files as if the IE browser window was just another file browser.

If you would wiggle it while rubbing against me I think I would forget about all my other problems ;) :p
