Insurance companies spend millions trying to persuade us that we should take policies out with them. Then, when things do go wrong, they go to great lengths to find a way of not paying up.

Does anyone else find this loathsome?

My insurance excess is £250, but if I happened to be a year younger it would go up to £650 - which is more than it cost to take the damn policy out in the first place.

Before, I always used to view uninsured drivers as scum of the earth. Now I find myself understanding wholeheartedly why they choose to break the law.

One of the few advantages of extreme old age is low car insurance premiums.

I am comprehensively insured on a large fast car for less than your excess.

However, I have had daughters insured on my cars while they were learning to drive. Adding them to the cover meant that the annual premiums were more than the value of the car and IF they had an accident the car would be written off. The excess values applied when my daughters were driving meant that I wouldn't get a penny towards the next car.

I've had a car stolen and a car totaled, and the insurance company paid-up right away with no hassles. They've also been very prompt in paying claims for repairs (such as when the deer jumped onto my hood). Yes, you pay through the nose for the insurance coverage, but I'd never, ever drive without it.

after last year's accident..being with the same insurance company for 17 years really helped me out. what they charged me for the accident, they took away in customer loyalty. THANK GOODNESS!
