Instead Softcups

there used to be a product available here in Oz called Gynaeseal - and they were absolutely bloody brilliant!
never had a problem with them.
but they've kinda disappeared off the pharmacy shelves, and i can't find them anymore :(

and of course, being Oz, we can't get any of the others either - and if we do order them in from overseas, we have to pay import duty!
take THAT, mr customs officer sir!

Somebody mention my name? :D

i did have luck with the instead softcups. Then i had children. They never did work again. Back to tampons and pads and all the other whatnots.

i actually just got a diva cup (same thing as the keeper, but clear silicone and a little less rigid). It cost something like $38 with the cost of shipping and everything. It leaked ONE DAY - the first day - and that was only because i bleed extremely heavily. The diva cup has little measurement markers on the side so you can tell how much blood is lost - it's kind of nifty - and i ended up losing over 6 oz. in that one day. This is not normal! Anyway, it only leaked after it pretty much overflowed.

They're more comfortable, too. i literally forgot it was there after the first about hour or so. Even that first hour i was just really self-conscious about it, or it would have been forgotten earlier.

These actually fit very well. They set differently than the softcups. They're more vertical and are actually held in place by the muscles in the walls of the vagina. It forms a seal, like watergirl said, which works a lot better than the softcups.

Thanks Guys and Gals...... I guess me and the Softcups are just not meant to be!!!!

That Diva Cup sounds pretty nifty though Entitled..... and perhaps marginally more pleasing on the eye than the Keeper!!! :p

Thanks for the note on the Depro Stiffy... been there, done that.. and never again!

Thanks Warrior and Old Man...... why are these things still on sale if they dont work???? Drives me mad!!!!

A lot more pleasing, just for the lack of color. :) They're on the same site as the keeper, made by the same company.

It's all the men's fault. It's a conspiracy, i say!

It WOULD be you... :p

If i remember your cycles right, it should be. It only took a couple of weeks for them to process the order, get it shipped out, have it go through customs, bla bla bla and for it to get here. And you've heard about our lovely local postal service. They tend to get our mail to the house a few days late constantly.

I also found the divacup on www.lunapads.com and here's the link:

ahhh

Good to know! That diva cup is about $5 less than I think the keeper was, and I do like the clear look better. Where's the loyalty, huh? ;) I'm coming up on 30, and they do recommend that as you age, your cervix changes size a bit, as it can after childbirth. I think when I order a next size bigger, I'll try the diva cup - good to know about!

I must concur with the Old Man's actual wife about the diaphragm. It not only worked for its original purpose, it also worked to keep the flow back so we could have sex without leaking all over the place. I thought Insteads were a nifty idea, but they require a much smaller bore than I had, after two large babies. They didn't work worth a damn. They really ought to be sized, like the diaphragm. I called mine The Gasket, because inserting the thing was about as conducive to romance as rushing out in the middle of things and replacing the thermostat gasket in your car, but it had its uses.

Divacup and Keeper...

I had a Divacup, but lost it when I left it at my ex's house when we broke up... wasn't about to go back to ask for it. Got the Keeper to replace it (it was that time of the month and the store I went to didn't stock Divacups; I'm not sure if they're available except by internet/mail order) and it works the same. The only problem I ever have with it is at night... I sleep curled up on my side and that tends to pop it out of position and too far "up," causing leakage when I get up in the morning. To remedy this I sleep wearing a Lunapad (washable pads, kinda a little icky but for me totally worth it). It doesn't always pop up out of position, but I wear the pad for the "just in case" factor because I like my pajama pants.

Strongly recommend both, despite the scary brown color of the Keeper! I've totally made my money back on the cost of tampons!

Thanks Slick and Ethical..... looks like I will have to give the Keeper a try!!! :p

Hiya again watergirl! :rose:

Summer here is pretty cruel, it's been 38 C most afternoons lately. Maybe we need to meet in the middle with a permanent Spring?

I strongly suspect that the problem with the "Softcups" is that they are not a good fit.

Every woman is "sized" slightly differently from others, when my wife got her first diaphragm the gyno inserted several different sizes before prescribing one. She often used it during her period when we had sex. Used it one night and forgot about it, two days later it Finlay began to leak.

If the softcup is too small or too big it will leak because it will shift with movement. One size does NOT fit all.

Just noticed that I am logged on as my wife, my comp. died and am using hers.

Hit the nail on the head. Thats why they have the ducklips in different sizes at the gyno.

And I take it you can't have sex while wearing them bc of the movement and that it seems to extend a little and that may be a bit of a jab to the penis? Once I get over having to go fishing for the cup I'll get one, right now I'm not too inconvienced by pad/tampons... though, since I first got my period to now, I wonder how much money has been thrown away...
Many people swear by the keeper by me. I'm in somewhat of a very environmentaly geared area... its not tough to buy Tampax but it is much easier to find the all natural, unbleached, washable...etc versions, which are better then big name brand corps.

If I leeked from my penis I would certainly stay at home. Maybe when women get a period they should get the day/week off of work etc? It would sure make sence. Then you could sit in the tub or whatever the whole day and not have to worry about having imberrasing moments or w/e.
