So...I've been around a while... Found the site waaaay back about 2 years after it was created....lurked a while before creating an account...

Then I wrote some stuff...it wasn't great...eventually found my way back with a new account (forgot about the old account) and here I am.
I'm 42, going on 43. Have a few decent stories under my belt. Etc etc...

That being said, I mostly stick to my lanes. i have certain categories of stories that I know and like, and that's where i stay. Why? because if I write what I know, than I have a better chance of writing it well.

I say all of this to say: Sometimes people use initialisms that I haven't got a clue what it means, and I am just lost. sometimes it's in a comment on one of my stories. Sometimes it's in the title or tagline of a story. And I am just confused.

The other day, I posted a story. It's getting decent feedback. (well, it's getting good star ratings) but it got 1 comment, and only 1 comment, and that comment simply says "a little flm" And I have no clue what that comment means. What does "flm" mean. What is the person trying to say to me? I do not know.

I'd say it means a female-led marriage. I haven't read your story, so I can't be sure.

The only usage of FLM that I am familiar with is as an acronym for "Funny like me" in text messages and the like

I use the internet to look up abbreviations I do not recognise.

In this case, the most appropriate answer was: FLM stands for "Funny Like Me,"

Alternatives included the Albanian for thankyou and "Fecky Little Man". Take your pick.

I read a little of the story, and it makes me suspect "Female-Led Marriage." The concept also appears as FLR for "Female-Led Relationship."

The commenter is actually a sometimes AHer. You might be able to get an authoritative answer.

There are several old threads on Acronyms, such as that one. I thought there was a much fuller one, but for now I can't find it.

I usually google the initialism and the word fetish if I can't figure out from context. Gets me the answer most of the time.

You mean you found out that an "initiiaiism" is properly called an abbreviation, and an acronym is a subset that can be pronounced.
An abbreviation is a word that has been shortened.

An initialislism is when you take the first letters of different words, and put them together (ie: cfnm= clothed female nude male)

An Acronym is when those letters form a word,

"Initialism" is an American abomination.

Abbreviation is a superset of both initialism and of acronym. Not all abbrevs are either one of those, yet all of those are abbrevs.

I had a comment the other day; all it said was "HAF."

I have no clue what's up with that. I'll just tell myself it's "hot as fuck" and consider myself complimented.

If you search for "HAF fetish" you find that it's "high arched feet" (and presumably something very important to foot fetishists). I doubt that's what your commenter meant.

No, that is a contraction.
No, a contraction is when you take two words, and combine them with an apostrophe, such as "Don't". "Appt." is an abbreviation, a shortened version of the word appointment.

If you are going to correct someone, at least do it correctly.
